Now they've not been able to re-acquire the signals, raising fears that the batteries have run out.

If what was heard was the wreckage and the batteries have ran out. At least you would think they know within a few square miles where it is.
Could be, or it could be much larger depending how many locations they caught the signal at. But even if it is a few square miles imagine going through a section of field with a flash light in the pitch dark looking for some small boxes, crazy.

I wish they would talk more about the science behind how they analyze the signal because there are quite a few variables to account for. I understand the basics, but what do they do for salinity, temperature gradients, and probably easiest increasing density with depth.

Don't say I didn't warn you... These are the kinds of things I read when I'm interested in scientific topics. Note that having access to a university's catalog of journals helps, but often isn't necessary to get at least some information. If you're truly interested, read the following link, it should be available to all.

I'm sure I'll be ok, I've had to read papers on polymers and nanostructures. Thanks for the link, hopefully I get some time to read it this week.

If 370 made a soft landing in the ocean, a.k.a. Hudson River landing, then practically impossible to extract black boxes because those boxes was deep inside 777 fuselage. Plus all on board was already died due to a hypoxia way before soft landing (Payne Stewart crash). Right?

Myself, another false lead .......they're searching in the wrong place. Oil rig worker eye witness report was legit after all?

LOL! BTW, I didn't belief Grassy knoll theory and magic bullet too. Just simply one lucky shot, Lee Harvey Oswald. However I belief bigtime cover up. Main or probably one suspect: LBJ. Numerous motives.

"Flight 370: More than 45 days into the search, here come the lawyers" (CNN headlines)

Most lawyers, perhaps all, are the lowest form of life on earth. I rarely have sympathy for corporations but my heart goes out to Boeing.

People sue for tripping on their own shoelaces.

Just build thousands of Judge Judy androids. No lawyers allowed in Judy's courtroom ! I like it.

Doc Brown: The justice system works swiftly in the future now that they've abolished all lawyers.
Amen

I have a new theory about this.

Getting back to the theory that some terrorist (or other bad group) took the plane and hid it in a hanger somewhere. What if they then took out the black box with the pinger and sunk it in the deepest part of the Indian ocean? I'm not even sure if these can be taken out without destroying part of the plane. But, it definitely would lead the search a long ways away from where ever the plane really is. The black box would be almost impossible to find after the batteries ran down. The Emergency Locator transmitters are supposed to be set off if the plane decelerates quickly like in a crash. None of the four were set off on this plane. No debris has ever been found in the area either.
