United Kingdom -- Bristol city council has been criticised for allowing its web pages to be used by child sex perverts to advertise their own sick internet sites. The authority closed down a bulletin board - where people can post messages, after complaints that users were posting links to obscene content elsewhere on the internet.
Wansdyke MP Dan Norris, a former child protection officer, warned the council of the problem after one of his own constituents told him about it.
The bulletin board was for teaching professionals to share best practice and was aimed at teachers and school support staff.
But Mr Norris said that a glance at the members list showed that numerous people, apparently unconnected to teaching, had used the forum to provide links to websites with addresses such as "boys-sex-clips".
Alex Woodland, a website administrator and forum moderator who lives in Knowle, said it was outrageous that the council had failed to notice the problem immediately.
Council spokesman Simon Caplan said: "We have taken immediate action and closed the bulletin board. The matter is now the subject of a full investigation. Neither the council's main website at www.bristol-city.gov.uk or its main children and young people's services site at www.bristol- cyps.org.uk are affected."
