Mo Purify - Once a Husker, Always a Husker

Maurice Purify takes pride in his Nebraska license plates and wears red Nebraska pads under his Rattlers uniform.

"Once a Cornhusker, always a Cornhusker," the Rattlers' dazzling receiver said.

If Purify remains with the Rattlers, there is a good chance they would get back to the Arena Football League's championship game.

His baby's mama lives five houses down from me, so I see a fancy car or two rolling down ol' Gertie Avenue from time to time in his offseason.

I always thought Purify would catch on in the NFL some place. The guy doesn't lack for ability.

I was at the Barnstormers game here in Des Moines over the weekend. He still wears his Nebraska back plate.

Probably my favorite husker from last decade.. Had a wonderful career and brought it every game.

It's amazing to think he's a guy that can't catch on in the league! Those arena teams have a ton of talent and it's a lot of fun to watch... I miss the world league for stories like this alone...

I think this is the single biggest reason he hasn't caught on with an NFL team. A quote from his Arena coach, from this article:

"He can be as good as he wants to be," Rattlers coach Kevin Guy said. "If his mind is right, and he stays healthy and he keeps himself healthy, then he's going to do some good things for us this year.

"But, hey, he's got to stay focused and improve his game week to week."
