Let's just make it 64 teams! Let's water it down so much that the regular season doesn't even matter....

If you want a meaningless regular season game, check out the LSU-Alabama game last year. Other than it made it "easier" for Alabama to get into the championship game because they didn't have to play a conference championship game.

That game became meaningless because of Oklahoma State's loss. I don't think there's a team that would be willing to lose control of their own destiny like that.

Exactly what everyone who thinks going to a playoff would devalue the regular season doesn't consider. Yes, if it was 16 or more teams in a playoff, it might start to take away. But with four teams in a playoff do you think Alabama is going to take a game of just because they could still get in with a loss? And anyone else with one loss might not get in at all. Even at eight teams it basically only gets one-loss teams and some provision for conference champions in the mix. Lose more than one and you're on very thin ice.
