MISSOULA, Mont. – An employee of a Missoula mental health center who told police about a client's computer search for child pornography was fired, in part for making the report, according to court records.
The client, John Gribble, has been charged with sexually abusing a child after a DVD with photos of nude children was found at his house, the Missoulian reported Wednesday.

i don't know what to think about this, but it would seem one could break confidentiality to report a crime of this nature because it is a state hospital and you would think that would mean forfeited rights for the patients, especially if they were involuntarily admitted. but at the same time hippa and confidentiality is extremely important and i would assume the hospital would have protocol for dealing with such transgressions, because they are there because they are sick, so this behavior should not be unexpected.

 
In the "state" of California a RN must legally report any person that may have or is abusing a child; if they have knowledge of the crime. A RN can lose their license for failure to report such incidences. May be the same in other states too.
