According to Husker Extra's Wednesday Practice Report:
It was interesting to see Cody Green staying a few minutes late to fire some passes to Brandon Kinnie.
Green didn’t play in Nebraska’s 9-7 loss to Iowa State, a game in which the offense committed a school-record-tying eight turnovers.
“Going into the week they said that there was a really good chance I would get playing time,” Green said, “but there’s always that sense of ‘what if?’ That game, it was 9-7, close game, and that was that ‘what if?’ sense.”
Green said coaches have said every spot is open this week, “that if you want spots, go take them.”
“I don’t think it’s just one guy that can make that spark,” Green said. “It may be that one guy that makes a big play that sparks the whole offense, that shows everybody else, ‘Hey, let’s jump on the bandwagon, let’s go.’ But as for one person getting in there and making a difference, I honestly don’t think that can really happen. You need the other 10 guys around to help you make that play.”
Green said coaches aren’t designing specific plays or packages for him, although he’s been getting excited after seeing more of the zone read.
“I just sit and itch because that’s what I’ve been brought up to do, all through high school,” Green said. “That’s why I’m really here. That’s why I had close to 2,000 yards rushing and 3,000 yards passing, because we just threw bubbles and stuff off that play. We’re really starting to turn to that and it’s really starting to drive me crazy because I want to get in there and run it and just show people what I can do.”
