More Media Bias & Disrespect for Nebraska

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact we're a lightly populated midwestern state. This part of the country will always suffer a stigma...the corn comments, football is the only thing there, etc., etc. It really boils down to jealousy. They think, how can a po-dunk school in nebraska be national champions not once, but 5 times?? A lot of schools would kill for even half the tradition we have. Living in 3 states besides nebraska has really taught me a lot, but mostly that people in the cities are just as dumb as anywhere else. LA and NY are full of people who have lived there their whole lives and still couldn't tell you where the nearest grocery store is, even if it was right around the corner.

The 9-3 record of Solich's last year doesn't tell the whole story, but bottom line is the program wasn't headed in the right direction. I love the new offense, it's like watching a pro team when you go to a game. It's giving us the ability to compete at the top level and is allowing us to recruit better athletes, that wasn't happening under the old system. I think we're on to something special here and 2007/2008 and beyond are going to be some great years.

Living in Iowa, everytime i run into someone its always the same thing, its "Oh..your a husker. i dont like them" I ask them for one good reason, but i never get one. We have good, respecting fans, we never used to (intentionally) kick the crap outta opponents too bad, and our university is well respected in academics. yet i continually hear people say they do not like us.

I was at a Church retreat once, we were fooling around playing football, and as i was about to get owned, so i pitched the ball to someone else who wound up scoring a TD. The guy in charge of the place we were at goes "Thats all you stupid Huskers ever did. 40 years of going (pitch) over and over again and you call it football"

It's a case of being so good, for so long. People love to hate whomever is "on top" at the moment - and NU was on top for decades, not just seasons.

Look at the way most of the nation feels toward USC - then remember that no one cared about them when they were mediocre. But that came after decades of dominance, and by then, the "hatred" was built in for fans of teams in the region. Same with any team that experienced long-term dominance.

What compounds if for Nebraska is that during those decades the offense was such that many people thought that Nebraska ran up the score. That wasn't true - anyone who really watched knew that Dr. Tom routinely went four deep, and did it quickly. But by then, the defenses were worn out and dispirited, and the scores kept piling up. Not to mention that Nebraska was thought of as routinely scheduling patsies for non-conference foes and that, with the exception of Oklahoma, rarely faced a team of substance in the conference.

Put all those together, and it's understandable.

 
:rant I honestly could care less if any media gives us props, likes us, or even respects us. We all know what Husker pride and tradition is about, if they don't......who cares. Hopefully the team just uses this kind of garbage as fuel. After 40 years of typing headlines like: "HUSKERS WIN EASILY" and "HUSKER JUGGERNAUT CONQUERS AGAIN" the media is enjoying a little change. Even if it was only for a couple of years.

Ah screw the rant, the media clowns can simply BITE ME! GBR!!!!!!

It is one thing to have a differing opinion, yet it is another to consistantly have nothing good to say. This board would not be what it is if everyone agreed on everything. Hell I will argue with anyone but pooh bear doesn't even try to understand the opinions of others and just spews out nonsense every time he posts.

You must be reading different articles and listening to different radio and TV show then I do. If you would not read the Omaha World Herald or Lincoln Journal Star, not watch Channel 6 news, and not listen to KFAB, you would hear many differing viewpoints on the Huskers.

You are correct we should go to the Denver post or some other large news paper to hear about what is going on with the Huskers. Maybe the NY Times Husker section is full of information that the hicks at the OWH or LJS have completley missed.

Like it or not, that is how the overwhelming majority of college football fans not bleeding the "Scarlet and Cream" feel about NU. They hated NU for destroying their favorite teams with an offense that was not new and trendy, and laugh at us now for being ordinary, unimaginitive, and boring.

We all have our opinions, but Ordinary, Unimaginative and Boring. I don't think that applies to this team, scheme or coaches. I still see things going on with the plays, that with a few more capable players executing them in Coach C's system we are truly heading into an era that many Husker fans have not seen before. New and Exciting might be a better description of the team as it puts the pieces together. IMHO
