Most Under-Rated Husker of All-Time

Lord was an option quarterback and he called his own number a lot. He piled up the yards but it was a brutal offense to watch. He probably had a better defense behind him than many of the qbs after him so I just don’t see giving Jammal more credit than he already has - one of Nebraska’s best rushing quarterbacks

LOTS of designed QB runs and "option" look plays that were optimized for the QB run- were QB runs all the way

Look at the QB run stats of the TO teams compared to Solich

Lord and Crouch took beatings

But absolutely he didnt throw very well- but took more heat than he deserved IMO

Not sure Lord had the Tailbacks needed to carry the load many of TOs teams did.

Davis was leading rusher one year with 600 yards

Contrast that with GReens 1800 yards

Well Lord had 70 more carries than his featured running back -- Darrhan Deidrick at just a tick under 1,000 yards -- so a RB could easily have been a 1,200 yard rusher if the carries were equal, or the RBs weren't platooning. Not a great couple seasons either way.

RBs dont get sacked on pass attempts counting against them and while Im a big Solich fan, his playcalling was pretty dar n  predictable

That group of starting RBs were not anywhere near the Husker standard

So many guys could be filed under 'underrated'.  On offense I'll go with Gerry Gdowski.  I think he most certainly surpassed what anyone was expecting of him when it was time.  In his one and only year as the starter he ended being chosen Big 8 co-offensive player of the year in 1989.  

Defensively I have to go with Kenny Walker.  Not only battling being the only deaf Nebraska football player in Nebraska football history as far as I know anyway he surpassed the odds against him and was the Big 8 defensive player of the year and an All American in 1990.  He went on to get drafted by the Broncos.
