MU & KU Fans....

J,

I think our standard of good is a little different. We're spoiled in Huskerland....not a lot of losing to temper our expectations over the years. Right, wrong or indifferent, we expect to have a well-ranked and nationally competitive team every year.

I think the Callahan tenure is still looked at as an odd period for many of us. It just didn't feel right, didn't feel like our Nebraska program. I mark it up as a fluke.

So far, Pelini's brand is feeling a lot more familiar. A lesser level of success with Pelini may bring my expectations down a bit, but until then, I'm sticking with the high standards.

Ha, I'm bookmarking this page so when the Hawks don't reach their 10 (or 9) win season I can bring it back up.

Good luck!
I predicted 9 or 8, not 10. I have lots of Bets. I am looking forward ot the post of CY in a KU hat just if we have a winning season (not looking forward to a post with me in both ISU and NU gear, but I am a man of my word). Bookmark away. 7-5 could happen. Especially if reesing gets hurt. So could better than 9 wins. We almost beat Tech and UT 4 years ago, and we are A LOT more improved than they are (we were very mediocre then)
I'll bet your mom's cookie jar you win no more than 8 games...

Personally, i see KU going 7-5

What a great post. That was well written. I'm so impressed I don't know what to do with myself. Geeez. Thanks for clearing that up. I better just sit back and hope for a 6-6 campaign. Let me get this Orange bowl Champions shirt out of my closet because it was a fluke that we beat Virginia Tech, I mean, we played nobody all year and we're still not a good program.

I'm now Hoping for a trip to the Fort Worth Bowl, cause we're just not a good program. My gosh, I just hope we can field a team at this point. And crap, we lost 2 running backs in the last 2 weeks!! They're transfering because they know they won't see the field. Well gosh, we need all the help we can get though, cause we're not a good program. I mean, gosh, we're not a good program and last year was just a flash in the pan. I feel so stupid buying season tickets this year. I might as well trade them in and get Husker tickets because they're a "good program" and are destined to finish at least 2nd in the north and restore the order.

Nevermind our 11-1 regular season. How ridiculous. I have to learn that we played nobody. Oh wait a second, did we play Nebraska? Oh, well, last year doesn't count. I keep forgetting that. Bo is in Lincoln now and everything is fixed. OK, pass the Husker Kool-Aid cause I'm thirsty to start sipping.

Hey Guys, I even heard the other day that Bo runs a 4.3 40 yd dash and is competing for a linebacker job!! Sweet!! Expect the worst and hope for the best as a jayhawk fan. Thanks ray for getting me on track. Thanks for helping me know my roll.

Here's to lowering my expectations this year and pulling for a 6-6 Jayhawk Season. Fort Worth Bowl here we come!!! :sarcasm :rollin

:clap
And as far as trading your tickets and and getting Husker tickets, good luck with that. This is a very good post and I know it hurts for KU & MU fans to have to read it but sometimes the truth hurts. Say what you will about Husker fans but our good program will be SOLD OUT, winning or losing and buy the way I had the Jayhawk Season at 6-6 also, 3-5 in the big 12

Good God. Can you Huskers stop trying to lecture KU fans on what a 'good program' is and how our standards differ, as if we are a fanbase that has never experienced success. We just won a NC for christ's sake. We know all about tradition and having an elite program. Your fball program is better. We get it. There is no debate here. But it doesn't mean that KU fans shouldn't be excited for this season, and after last year, consider KU to be relevant in the bigXII.

Relevant in the big 12 because they didn't win the north? they lost to Mizzou. What other good big 12 team did they play? A&M? Ok State? Baylor? yea... okay..... until you guys actually play a half way difficult schedule and have success, you aren't going to get respect in football... its just not going to happen... just because you have success in basketball doesn't mean that you're going to be able to control your success in football... football is probably the most followed sport and when people can talk about it like they are right there with everyone else they want to do that... perfect example is the few people that i saw that were KU baseball fans that were running their mouths like they were amazing on other baseball boards, when they won the big 12 tourney. big deal. in the same respect, nebraska fans will start to 'expect more' out of the basketball team in the coming years, and some will be trash talking just because they win a game or two... not all, maybe not a lot, but some will, and thats just because the lack of success in that department created that need to talk smack. its all fun and games, but don't be idiotic about it by saying that KU is great and they are going to be a power and will go 2-1 vs tech, ou, and texas this year.... thats just stupid! (and no, thats not directed towards you)

First off, I have a ton of respect for the Huskers. When KU isn't playing, I usually root for NU (actually moving to Omaha in a couple weeks). I see your football program as being very similar to our bball program. Two elites that somehow came out of two small midwestern states that are often mocked by the rest of the country. Anyway, I didn't come over here to flame and I don't believe I said anything 'absurd.' I haven't spoken to a single KU fan that feels the Jayhawks are any type of 'national power' or have caught up with the huskers in fball. That would be ridiculous. Anyone that comes over here and states this is just trying to piss you off. But I don't see a problem with higher expectations, like 10-2 or 9-3. We're fans. Of course we expect great things. That's what makes it fun. And I don't expect husker fans to immediately respect KU's fball program. It needs to be earned.

Good luck this year. Please destroy MU and the powercats.

I wasnt implying that what you said was absurd. mainly just one of your fellow ku fans. you just happened to step into the middle of it for you first post. welcome to the board by the way

JustTheTip,

I should have used quotes. I was replying to a statement by jayhawk. He said: "Maybe you guys are so used to dominant that you forgot what a normal definition of good is..."

I was agreeing with him. Just like I'm sure losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament a couple of years ago was unacceptable. Even I have higher standards for your team than that.

:thumbs

You sound like a bitter Husker fan dude. So why do you think KU can't beat Texas and Texas Tech in Lawrence? KU actually matches up quite well in both games and most likely will be favored in one, or both. Texas isn't a very good football team and will be exposed and Tech still hasn't proved to me that they can play defense. Oh, and throw in that KU has only lost 2 home games in the last 3 years. The Hawks play good in their back yard my friend.

Is it just me, or is Texas getting absolutely no love in 2008? Everyone seems to want to talk about OU, TT, or Mizzou winning the Big 12. Texas is ranked pretty well in the national polls, but no one around here wants to give them any love. While Mack Brown probably doesn't rank in the top 50% of coaching ability in the Big 12, they are still stacked with talent year in and year out. While Mangino is a better coach than Brown, Texas still holds a huge advantage in terms of talent from top to bottom. I think Texas has a better chance of winning the Big 12 than TT does. I'd still put them up there as 2nd behind OU.

I would have to agree with you. Everyone always points at McCoy and says, "As long as he is QB at Texas, they will never get anywhere" (or something similar to this). I think he's a good player, but he needs others on the offense to step up too. Specifically I am talking about the offensive line. A QB is only as good as their line, and I feel their line wasn't too good last year leading to alot of pressure on Colt. He still threw for 3,300 yards, which is okay, but with what appears to be an improved offensive line, Colt should have a better season this year.

I look for Texas to very much be in the mix down south, and perhaps a place in the Big 12 Championship game.

Texas has a lot of talent, but if you don't play as a team then it doesn't really matter. Texas lost their best player Jammal Charles and Limas Sweed. Heck, Charles c McCoy needs to fix his "happy feet" in the pocket and maybe they'll imporve, but somebody on that O-line has to step up and block for Colt.

arried them to 2 wins that otherwise would of been losses-including the NU game!

They have plenty of talent, I'm just not sold on them this year. I see them losing 4 games this year.

Ha, I'm bookmarking this page so when the Hawks don't reach their 10 (or 9) win season I can bring it back up.

KU will go 10-2 folks. I'm more convinced today than I was yesterday. Had the opportunity to see them live and in action at the Fan Appreciation Day. They didn't show much, but the little I saw was enough to secure the 10-2 prediction.

Is it Aug. 30th yet??? :koolaid2:
