Not many ballparks have that. If I had to guess, it would be more for the grounds crew when they get the field ready or just to keep the field more symmetrical.Anyone know why there's a strip of bare dirt between the pitcher's mound and home plate?
My Son was trying to tell me it was for the pitcher to run to home plate in the case of a wild pitch and I was trying to sound all scientific and say it was so the batter could more easily tell which way the ball was curving and/or spinning.
