My Baylor/Skers after thoughts

Great win by the Skers! Man I was kind of shocked that Bill C didn't go for it on 4th and inches down near their 10 yard line. I could understand it if we didn't have the running game going but Lucky, Ross, and Glenn were really moving the ball in the second half. Was McKeon in there tonight? I don't recall them saying his name. I think our OL did another fine job! The announcers were saying how they were impressed at our OL blocking to the second level meaning smacking the LB's of Baylor. I even seen Murtha out there a few times. On a side note does anyone else notice that we play to the level of our compitition? Maybe it's just me. Anyways Great Win coming off the heart break in Lincoln. Smith had a monster of a game! Way to ge BIG FELLA! The big 12 north is right there and the Huskers can smell it. We control our own destiny!!!! :clap

The comment about us playing to our competition is exactly right. We just said the same thing in my living room after watching this game. The Huskers we saw this week were not the same ones who almost beat Tech last week.

They did just enough to win.

What's with Ross fumbling twice?!

Yeah I don't know. I was noticing our OL was making HUGE holes for him to run through but he kinda happy footed through them. We need someone to EXPLODE through them! I can say that our future looks very bright at IB. Oh and the OLB thats taking Bradley's place Ickes, man he looks lost! I kind of expected that though. I am sure Coz will get him up to par with the rest of the D.

I was shocked, it was actually the RIGHT call, close game, needed the points.

Not sure about that <_< Only 350 yds of total offense, and if the stats I got were correct, they averaged less than 4 yds per carry.

I just think that all of the teams NU has played have been medicore, except for Tech, which in my opinion is pretty good, but not a 12th rated team. Top 25 yes, but theyre probably not gonna factor in the NC race. I just think that besides UT and TT, ALL of the rest of the Big 12 teams are middle of the road, and any can win during any give Saturday.

Anyways Great Win coming off the heart break in Lincoln.  The big 12 north is right there and the Huskers can smell it. We control our own destiny!!!!
Absolutely! :thumbs If NU takes care of its business, they can win the North. It was a very nice road win coming off a loss :cheers

good win... i hope those last few interceptions by the secondary will give them the confidence... ickes is goin to have to get his head in the game if they want to keep brad smith in the pocket next week. terrence nunn played huge 2nite, good job by him and all of the receivers for that matter

Yeah your right. I was getting greedy!

Not sure about that. Only 350 yds of total offense, and if the stats I got were correct, they averaged less than 4 yds per carry.
I was mostly talking about how the OL was really giving nice running lanes. Like I stated earlier..Ross just doesn't seem to explode through the hole but instead dances around and looks for the cutback. Don't get me wrong Ross is one hell of a player! I just miss the days where a RB from the Huskers would hit the first hole and kick it into over drive for the score!

Terrence nunn played huge 2nite, good job by him and all of the receivers for that matter
Oh man T Nunn took a snot bubble of a hit and held onto the ball. Very impressed!

On the field goal.. Yeah, I was suprised. With the way we were converting 4th and short with Glenn.. I think we would have gotten it. But it was a one score game, and we needed to make it two, so it was the right call I think.

On McKeon.. yeah I didn't hear his name at all. Not sure what the deal was. Anyone know?

On the OL.. They looked good. Gave Taylor all sorts of time to throw the ball. Opened up some nice holes for the run. Nice job all around there.

On playing to the OPP level.. I actually had the same thoughts after the game. I think it is because we adjust our plan constantly throughout the game, to fit the situation we are in. This coaching staff doesn't give a rats a$$ if we win by 1 or 100... and quite frankly, I commend them for that. So, playing to their level.. not really, but playing to the situation.. yeah.

McKeon cant play like a monster every night, he just had a off day thats all, he will be back.

Coz has really got this DL playing well. Those shifts they do backing up LB's, moving LB's in, moving the DL to one side or the other is really screwing up the opposing team. Great jobs go out to Coz and the Blackshirts!

We did a great job today im very proud :thumbs . I hope we can do it next week against Missouri I think we'll easily have that game in a bag the way we're playing :cheers

Good win for the team tonight, specially since we had a lousy record on the road last year against Big12 competition. On the other hand, i think we played down to the level of our competition. It's either that, or we just played one hell of a sloppy, inexcusable, disgusting game offensively and defensively. 4th and inches and we don't go for it and decide to kick the field goal? Sorry but unlike the rest of you, i think that was a stupid call by Callahan. We were perfect on 4th down conversions, and there was no reason we could not get a couple of inches. Hell, even cody glenn when he's not trying hard enough got a couple of yards on the last 4th and 1 play.

The offensive line is still getting off to a slow start. As the game progresses and the defenses get worn down, it works for us. There's going to come a time when a defense we face will not be pushed back 3, 4 yards in the 4th quarter, let alone stop blitzing all together (Baylor cut down its blitzing in the second half dramatically). Kansas is one team that comes to mind that if we do not establish that we are the ones who are going to dominate up front and not their defensive line, we will struggle against them trying to move the ball.

Yet again, the blocking of the tight ends is the reason for so many QB scrambles. It's sad to see our TE's 6 games into the season still NOT doing their job. I know i might come off as bitching, but these are all going to pop up in a couple of games against Kansas and Oklahoma.

Speaking of which. I thought our offense last year was the most pathetic offense i have ever seen from a DIV-A school. Kansas and Oklahoma's offenses this year make our 2004 offense look like USC's 2004 offense. Holy crap, those 2 team are the most pathetic offenses i have ever seen, specially Kansas. How the hell does Kansas only score 3 points in this game when they got 2 interceptions inside the OU 30 yard lines and missed a field goal from 25 yards out. This is the second game in a row Kansas has managed less then 85 yards of total offense in a half. What's even more sad about Kansas's offense is their starting field position was their own 45 yard line.

Anyways back to the NU game. Good to see our DB's actually managed to get interceptions. To bad it was against their second string QB who was throwing passes all over the place. We need to do a better job of reading the QB's eyes and figure out where passes are going. Baylor completed to many pass that went over 10 yards (6 plays in particular). Baylor got a 10 yard completion, a 16 yard completion, a 15 yard, a 12 yard, a 20 yard, and a 51 yard completion. That's 124 yards of Baylor's 202 passing yards, all coming on long passes. That shows one thing and that's that the DB's are not doing their jobs.

Anyways, i will stop ranting for now. I just hope the coaches fix these problems before our next game, otherwise we could lose that game.

This win meant a lot for this Husker team-more than most people believe. Floyd Casey isn't the most hostile environment, but it was a good challenge for the Huskers to play ball outside of Memorial. With the confidence from a solid road win tonight, Mizzou will not be as much of a challenge on the road.

The coaching staff is taking their "strip the ball" mentality too far, and it cost us tonight and will hurt us in the future. You have to have the first guy make contact and wrap the carrier up, then go for the ball.

Baylor was another mediocre defense, but the running game looked very solid tonight. Those long, draining drives with 4-5 yard gains wears the opponents out, not just physically, but also mentally. I don't see any team on our schedule that has shown a solid defense to combat our balance and production coming along on offense.

I would still like to see a more bump and run pass defense. These cushions from the corners are doing no good giving up easy 7 yard gains. Coz must not have the confidence in the corners to cut them loose and just cover.

It is great to see so many guys stepping up to fill spots. I will be honest and say that I had no idea who the #17 WR was before tonight. Ickes played pretty well for having to step in right here and play ball.

Overall, I am very pleased with the progress of this team. As a fan, I have a totally different mentality from last year. Last year, I wondered if I even wanted to turn on the TV or make the drive to Lincoln for the games. Now, I can't wait for the next one to get underway!

GBR! :horns2

I agree. There is no excuse for that play. Danny not only couldn't strip the ball, he let go of the guy and he eluded another NU player who had him wrapped and still managed to get away and make the "cough bullsh#t cough" touchdown.

This whole simultaneous possession rule is the most screwed up rule in college football. How in the hell can 2 player have possession of the ball doesn't even make sense.

I don't see any team on our schedule that has shown a solid defense to combat our balance and production coming along on offense.
Kansas is the only team that has a solid defense. Luckily for us, they don't have anything that resembles an offense.

I predicted a 6-0 start before we start the real part of the schedule, well we are 5-1-12" (12 seconds from another win :smokin ). Now the question that comes up is. Can we finish 10-1

It was a great game. The score should have been different, considering I think the 14 points Baylor got were a gift from the officiating crew IMO. The defense really tightend up there in the 2nd quarter, but in the 2nd half I thought they came out a bit flat. Either way, I thought the game should have been more lopsided.

Bullocks was too focused on stripping the ball at times. Someone needs to wrap while other strip. That's how it goes guys :thumbs

Ickes should have picked that ball off. That boy has some decent ups.

Taylor made some bad throws, but did manage the game well. He missed a few wide open guys. He had a decent game. That throw to Petersen was awesome. He was ALL alone.

Grixby had a great game.v :horns2

Nunn had a good game.Including that catch off his hip. I am not sure why Taylor threw it there. I didn't see if there was a defender out ahead of Nunn and he had to throw it there and have Nunn make the play or it was just a bad throw.

Any word on Ross? Was that hip pointer bothering him after that one play?

Marlon and Cody had some solid gains. Good to see.

For this teams first road game, yea it was a bit sloppy at times, but I'll take it.

Well, even the immobile OU offense managed like 19 points on KU. I guarentee the 'Shirts can hold KU's terrible offense under that.

Maybe Bullocks got caught up in his big strip for a TD against Wake Forest and thought he could do it again...He was one of the last guys on the D that I thought would have gambled for a big play rather than making the sure tackle. Hopefully the coaches will take note and clean this up...There will always be kinks that need to be worked out though!
