First let me start by saying :nanalama
Second let me say this post may seem as if Im bragging, but hey how could I not.
so if you are easily jealous, keep reading anyway.
Holy s bomb. What a freaking experience. Heres a quick breakdown of my gameday...
A&M fans...
I went with my Husker buddies from Houston, and we were treated with nothing but class. We had a group of 6, and not 1 of us had a single arrogant comment mentioned in our direction the entire day, and everyone was genuinely very helpful. Very classy fans -- if you ever get the chance to go, do it b/c of this reason alone. it's a dying tradition.
Atmosphere/noise/stadium...
Bunch of stuff going on around the stadium, which resembled College World Series type stuff, TV booths etc. The day couldnt have been nicer. 65 degrees, perfect cloudless blue skies. Could walk around openly drinking out of beer cans, which was a nice relief - and they even let you take your beer inside teh stadium if it was in a cup! amazing. Access into the stadium is pretty poor and they could use a new lightbulb repairman, but other than that the stadium was in pretty good shape.
The A&M crowd was spirited the ENTIRE game. student section appeared to take up one entire side of the stadium, from endzone to endzone, bottom to top. amazing. yes they were loud, but not the loudest Ive ever experienced. I still say Memorial has been louder, as well as Arrowhead. But once they get that thing fully enclosed, it will be mind piercing - b/c they lose alot of noise out of the south endzone. but nowhere else is that consistently loud.
Traditions were pretty cool - the swaying is mind bending. And I heard from several the band rooled. The "fight song" on the other hand, is quite pathetic. the crowd sings it at the end of each quarter, and the entire thing revolves around the Texas Longhorns. they dont even mention their own school in the thing. a bit obsessive perhaps. Id say its time to move on, you guys are better than that. and plus its free pub for "Texas Uni-versity" that they dont desvere. counterproductive.
End of game goes w/out saying, but i'll tell you about my experience anyway. we were in the north endzone, upper upper corner. after A&M took possession with a couple mins left, about 25% of the husker "fans" in our area bailed like they were late for sitting in traffic. I couldnt believe it. most traveled hundreds of miles, to bail on their team within ONE SCORE of winning. whatever, gave us more room to go absolute beserk!!! Im telling u, after MOs score, Ive never seen a larger display of absolut freak-out inside a sporting event, ever. just a huge pile of humanity. for a few mins it rivaled Dodge/O St during the National championship celebrations. people were runing around going complete monkeysheet. hugging on each other, screaming, i think I kissed a fat guy, twice, got dry-loved by a mostly naked dude with facepaint, and Im pretty sure my pants came off at one point.
unbelievable and freaking beautiful and wow.
