My Take on Wake

1. A quality, well-coached opponent we should've been more ready for - some comments (and performance) from the Blackshirts showed a little under estimation. Defending BCS conf. champion.

2. Weather/Heat a factor? We looked VERY sluggish, especially the O-line. By other reports it must've been quite hot.

3. Dropped balls... must put other guys in there (Niles Paul?)- and some off-target throws by SK. Saving Purify for SC or working him back in slowly? However, Nunn had a good game.

4. GREAT 2 minute drive to respond to the score. Thank Lucky for picking up that blitzing DB.

5. BAD Keller decision on that int/fumble/turnover. Just take the sack. He got lucky on that 4th down conv.

5. The refs eventually made the RIGHT call on the Eisenhart INT.

6. However, lots of holding by WF O-line not called.

7. GRix showed why he's so important.

8. Bowman made a game-changing INT

9. Can we PLEASE call some play action or bootlegs?

Next week... Our O-line had better step it up, or it's going to be a short (long???) night.

I agree with you and especially #9. We had two play calls... pass and run, and they were picking up the run very well. We didn't do any misdirection or anything to make them think about where to commit. This is a pattern with our offense... predictable and choppy. Hit and miss.

I sure hope that we can open it up against USC. We will need some misdirection and play action to move the ball.

I agree with much of what you wrote, especially the comment about Wake's incessant holding and NU's DBs stepping up big-time..... to add to that, Tierre Green is very important to the defense (it showed when he left with a neck stinger). Bryan Wilson was completely out of position, and Wake scored right where Wilson "should have been" as Wilson desperately attempted to get there as the ball was in flight.
