NBA 2023-24

Luka is an amazing talent, but he's one of the biggest floppers in the league. Those are two perfect examples, and I thought it was fitting that his flop, barking at the official, and lack of effort to get back on D led to a wide open three for the Celtics. I would really like to see the NBA do something about this. I think if they added an embellishment rule like hockey has, it would really help. Got to clean that stuff up.

Eh, now do James Harden, Paul George, LeBron, SGA, ANT, Embiid, Durant, etc, etc....

No one likes it when NBA players embellish for a call.  But it has been a thing before Shaq coined the phrase "Flop, Flopper".

Dennis Rodman did it with the Bulls in the 1990s on defense.  Manu Ginobli did it on offense for the Spurs all the time (creating a foul - not getting fouled).  Bill Laimbeer did it with the Pistons.  Vlade Divac did it Sacramento.  Danny Ainge did it with Boston.  Paul Pierce did it with Boston.  Pau Gasol with the Lakers.  And many players do it every game to get the whistle.  So, this is a nothing burger.  Luka playing along, and he's tired that he's not getting the same NBA royalty treatment that SGA, Embiid, Harden, Ant, Durant, Chris Paul, Draymond Green all get for being near them, and all the whistles and free throw attempts that comes with it.

Supposedly they get warned, and then a small fine with increments of 5g.  But just like all NBA fines, nobody knows where that money goes to because nobody will tell.

Average free throw attempts per game stats would completely disagree with you, but

It is like I have said, NBA players are brilliant.  They have figured out that it is much more to their benefit to not really play defense, launch 3's and flop like crazy and travel all the time (they are not going to call it, might as well travel)

High scores = big contracts.

Luka aside, there has been some serious defense in these playoffs.  Borderline prison ball in the TWolves games alone.

Eh, no.  That's some homerism right there.  It's the playoffs.  Luka saying 'they're not letting us be physical' is a really bad look when he b!^@hes literally every time someone is near him or touches him.  Hobbled or not, he's a complete disaster defensively right now.  Trying to draw a 50/50 charge in a close must win game with 4 minutes to go and 5 fouls is absolute lunacy and he's rightly getting killed for it.

I like Luka overall.  Guy is an absolute killer offensively.  But I gotta say he makes me turn on him with this garbage.  I had hoped he would've grown out of it by now.

Trust me, I had hoped he would have learned to stop complaining and doing it with so much animation - about 3 years ago.   :(   I hate it too.

Stop complaining and pick certain moments to talk to refs.  He should wait until someone is at the free throw line.  Then have a little convo with the ref around midcourt/sideline.  "I'm getting hip checked on drives, can you keep an eye on it?" or "I'm getting slapped on the wrist dribbling on pick and rolls, can you watch out for that?"

Just keep it low key.  I'm going to continue to hope he wises up this offseason and gets some sports therapy.  It has to stop.

Forgetting the flopping, and even given my preference for Boston to lose, it's hard watching Luka's non-stop iso game, just the way it was hard watching James Harden lead his team down a dead end of dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, shoot,

Welp, the official "Bash on Luka day, Feast your hate on Luka day" is hopefully over.

Even coach J Kidd noticed it coming from the media and some Huskerboard haters. So he addressed it prior to game 4.

Have a listen from 3:30 to end 1030. He puts it in perspective as the questions keep going about Luka Doncic.   :worship

Good to see some very fair criticism chalked up to being ‘haters’.  Nothing like being accountable.

Come down from your high horse for a second.

It is fair criticism to say that Luka has been beat playing defense at times in different games.

It is fair criticism to say Luka has shown poor effort on the defensive end and in transition at times in some games.

But I read your remarks, when you said "Luka aside, there has been some serious defense played in these playoffs"

You also said that "Luka is a complete disaster defensively " and his foul was "lunacy" and it makes you turn on him.

That is your way of speaking as a hater.

Nothing like being accountable as you say..   :)

I would say it’s my honest opinion as a fan that has no predisposed hate for Luka or the Mavs. I just think it’s funny that Kidd waits until an ultimately meaningless game 4 blow out to lump all fair criticism of Doncic as hater talk. Didn’t hear much after game three, but if it feels good to dunk on people because you narrowly avoided a sweep, good for you.

Condolences btw.
