I get that folks may not be interested in small market teams without much legacy, but last night's Game 1 was a great watch with an incredible ending. I'm not even convinced OKC choked. The Pacers just have this last-minute juju they've been able to summon in every series against supposedly better teams. Haliburton is getting legendary with these shots. Smart money should stay on the Thunder, but a Pacer championship shouldn't be a major upset either. They've been super hot for months now.

I expect it to end Thursday. Pacer team is fun and gives okc issues defensively. Unfortunately Halliburton cannot create for himself the way sga can…and has vanished for long stretches. I think Siakam has been better overall.

What would folks think about Nico Harrison if the Mavericks have a better season than the Lakers next year? And maybe longer term? Because that's looking like a real possibility.

The issue will always be with the return he got for a top 5 player. He landed exactly one first round pick for a generational talent. Regardless of how the lakers do…or even how Luka does moving forward…Harrison did not broker the best, or even honestly a good, deal based on the valuation of the asset he gave up.

That being said, if the Lakers shitty off season continues and Luka walks next year in free agency…the Lakers will somehow look stupider than the Mavs…which I’m totally in favor of.

Yep. He won between 45 and 62 games each year over five seasons with the Bulls. Only one year out of the 10 since he got fired have the Bulls won more than 45 games (46 in 21-22). Our buddy Fred (who directly replaced Thibs) never won more than 42.

He won 47 games in his second season in Minnesota. Got fired part-way through his third season. They won 19 games the following season. It took them six years to get more than 47 wins.

The Knicks had made the Playoffs 4 times in 19 seasons before they hired him. They missed the Playoffs once in his five seasons. Averaged nearly 50 wins and got to at least the Conference Semifinals each of the last three. Fired.

It is unreal!

I think what happens is that the NBA is such a huge players league and Thibs LOVES keeping starters in and grinding...I bet his players go and complain to the GM and owner.

I suspect a little came from ownership and the half-billion or so dollars they would be tying up in Doncic in the coming years. Fans have less of a problem with Luka looking out of shape and being a defensive liability cause he's still spectacular offensively. But I wonder if the guys with the checkbook just decided to rip the band-aid and consider the cash assets part of the trade. Since it was mid-season and a mind-bender, I wonder if Harrison did very little shopping to avoid leaks and speculation.

Brown took a pretty mediocre Cavs team to the NBA Finals in 2007 and was voted NBA Coach of the Year in 2009 after a 66 win regular season.

Just two years ago Mike Brown was the first unanimous selection for Coach of the Year in NBA history for turning around the Sacremento Kings. He was fired 32 games into the next season.

I mean sure you don’t want leaks, but why? Because you’re afraid of a PR nightmare? Like fans starting ‘fire Nico’ chants at every home game for the rest of the season? They should’ve recouped a ton of draft assets and a couple good players. You could’ve sworn every GM you called to secrecy and told them if it gets out…it’s off.

At the end of the day, you had at least the perception of a franchise changing asset, and you gave it up for one first round pick and a guy who’s had his commitment questioned even more than Luka.

Mikail Bridges went 5 first round picks. Just to contrast.

Browns a much better coach now than he was with the Cavs. That Cleveland team resided in a super weak conference and its entire offense was LeBron isos 40x a game. Not much of a tactician back then. His work with the warriors as an assistant and leading the Kings…much more innovation. And he’s always been a good defensive coach
