NCAA Considering Early Signing Period for Football

Bad idea. But it's nibbling around the right idea, which is a true offer and acceptance paradigm.

This is purely to help coaches and has nothing to do with helping players make better decisions. It also will hurt schools like Nebraska.

I'm not the biggest fan of an early signing period but I think it would force allowing earlier visits.

Given the choice between that and the status quo, those two changes would be a win for Nebraska.

I agree that earlier visits are good for NU and everyone. I'd actually love to see the NCAA go to two official visits. The costs are peanuts for P5 schools and it would go a long way in helping a kid evaluate options. I also think it would help schools like NU who focus on the "off field" aspects so much.

It will be interesting to see if an early signing period impacts "shotgun offer" tactics.
