Nebraska and Boise

I just posted this on another thread, didn't see this one...

but I really wish we would agree to play Boise State. We need to turn this program around with not only wins, but with quality non-conference schedules. No more cupcakes!

It's fun to have Boise State come play at your stadium. They think that they're good and then you destroy them. Granted, they might not gawk at the Nebraska girls like they do when they go to other schools...

NU would not destroy BSU. Actually, we would be underdogs and deservedly so. I would expect that BSU would beat NU 7 out of 10 times they played.

We want no part of BSU. It is a no win situation. Beat them and people yawn. Lose and people scoff. This is why no one wants to play them.

BSU has a system and great confidence. Right now, at this moment, they would roll over the Huskers --- anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves. BSU, if not a legit top 10 --- is a top 15 program. At present NU is somewhere between 30 -35th nationally as far as overall current football programs are concerned. BSU is, as hard as it is to admit, several levels beyond NU at the moment. Life is rough... but that is the truth, sad as it might be.

I'd love to see the Smurfs in LINCOLN!! Go Huskers! And we offered them a 2 in Norman, 1 in potatoland not long after the Fiesta bowl debacle, but they said, "No, thanks". Don't know what they're whining about now, almost lost to stinking LA Tech. BCS IS A JOKE!!!! BSU couldn't beat a fraction of the Big 12. Ok, rant over, but I hope it happens! I'd love to see them in Norman, revenge would be sweet!

Perhaps revenge would be sweet. But IT IS NECESSARY because they own scoreboard on OU. Enough said.

BSU would win the B12 North readily and would have won it more than any other B12 North program were they to have been in the B12 all along. The South... no. But they would own the North.

Speaking of Boise State...

Is there anyone else who is like me? Who thinks that if it came right down to it, Nebraska could/should beat all of these new "pretenders" in the top ten? Can you really see us losing to Boise State, TCU, Cincinnati or even Iowa?

I know... we'd probably lose, but it's hard to believe. Just like Oklahoma may have lost three games, but they won't lose to Kansas.

I just grew up in that era of Powerhouse teams... and it's so hard to believe how the worm has turned. Wake me up when everything is back to normal.
Ah.... yes, I can see us losing to each of them. We might beat some of them too. But... overall, NU fans (like you and I) have no right to suggest that NU can beat a Top 10 "pretender" until we can beat teams like Iowa State and Texas Tech who are well removed from the Top 10. How many years --- decades --- has it been since NU beat a top 10 team?

Like you I want to wake up when it is over and NU is a legitimate challenge to a top team. But we are awake and NU is nowhere near ready to take on a top team.

Words of reality.

Most consider Boise State as a pretender, just think of what it would be to lose to them and currently we would.

We need to just finish the season, keep out mouths shut and try and improve.

I find it funny that the guy bagging on the BCS and Boise St. the hardest is a Sooner fan. I can understand you still feeling a little bitter from that Fiesta Bowl loss, after all that was pretty embarrassing. But considering OU is the only Big12 team other than ISU too EVER lose to Boise...........and again they did it in a BCS game. Then I would think you are the last fan that should be railing about what a joke they are.

I would like to see this game, even if it a bit more high risk than it is high reward. It could mean a possible home loss, maybe even a bad loss............to BSU.......at home. Or a nice home win against a solid "mid major", in a game that would almost certainly be nationally televised.

Keep in mind that this game would also be our home opener, and give the Huskers three consecutive home games with Fresno St and Washington already on the schedule. IMO that could be a pretty tough NC stretch come 2011!

Interesting article I found while on Yahoo sports

Boise BCS blocked

Boise State is pretty much offering to go to any major opponent's stadium to play a non-conference game in 2011 and in return, they would not even have to play in Idaho. I noticed that the date they are wanting to play that there is no Husker opponent scheduled. How incredible of an opportunity would this be for Nebraska to fill their schedule with a quality non-conference opponent in addition to the financial prospects of not having to pay a Sun Belt like team, nor give up a home game next year.

What do the rest of you think? I say, bring on the Broncos!
I have heard this suggestion brought up a couple times before, and after listening to some talk shows on this idea and reading a few articles, playing BSU really isn't a good idea.

Why? Because we don't get anything from it. If they continue to be a good program like they are, they will have a pretty good chance of beating us. If we win, then it will be a game we were "supposed" to win and nobody will take anything from it. If we lose, people will still view this game as losing to a lesser opponent even if they are ranked higher than us in 2011. It's still Boise State. They are a good football program, but they reside in a below average conference.

Plus, do we really want our "key" non-con win of the season to be against BSU? Having to play BSU and then a top BCS program will be a brutal non-con, which is time for most teams in our position to get easy wins and make bowl eligibility.

Yeah this would be a disaster. No win situation. What if oregon would've had arkpine bluff to start the season? Washington is already beginning to climb out of their disaster and fresno is already a boise type game. The big 12 is a difficult conference because OU and Texas can almost always be counted on to be superpowers here. We always play one of them. Plus having to fight through the championship game...

NU should get it done. The schedule in 2011 would look like this:

09/03 Boise State .....Lincoln

09/10 Fresno State .....Lincoln

09/17 Washington .....Lincoln

09/24 Wyoming .....Laramie

10/01

10/08 #Kansas State .....Lincoln

10/15 #Texas .....Austin

10/22 #Oklahoma State .....Lincoln

10/29 #Missouri .....Columbia

11/05 #Iowa State .....Lincoln

11/12 #Kansas .....Lawrence

11/19 #Texas A&M .....Lincoln

11/25* #Craporado .....Boulder

That looks awful! Our easiest game is on the road. Could you imagine a 1-3 start! We would be battle tested for the conference though. Looks like a colorado schedule.

One thing to remember is that this would be the 2011 schedule. We all thought Washington would be an easy win last year, but now it's looking a bit more difficult. Fresno State, Wyoming, Boise State....same thing, they could be good, or they could stink.

I just think the financial implications of this game would do nothing but benefit Nebraska. How much money does Lincoln see each home game...and then to not have to return the favor and go play in Boise. I think Boise State is also a perfect fit for the schedule. We have currently one not so good team (Wyoming), and I would put Washington and Fresno State in the "average" category right now. Boise State would be a high quality team. And if we lose, then oh well. I would rather see us play quality opponents and lose than Sun Belt teams.

Boise state has ranged from Good to great now for 8 years running. I believe they are the winningest team in the nation over that period. they will most certainly not stink!
