Nebraska comes in 2nd in 2010 spring game attendance

At most schools the spring game is treated like exactly what it is: A scrimmage four months from the start of the season. But on certain college campuses you'd think it was a fall Saturday with the circus atmosphere and fervor shown by the fan bases. Here's how those schools rank in our Top 10 Biggest Spring Game Spectacles.
10. Notre Dame

2010 Attendance: 27,241

Ominous weather dampened this year's Blue and Gold game and kept people away from the debut of Brian Kelly. But one debut Notre Dame fans didn't miss was that of Jimmy Clausen in 2007, when over 50,000 people showed up and paid $15 to do so (hey, someone's got to foot the bill for Charlie Weis' contract). The country's hottest quarterback recruit made his debut at the right time as Notre Dame had no starting quarterback after the departure of Brady Quinn.

Those wanting to see the phenom weren't disappointed although his performance was underwhelming (3-fo-7 passing), which may have been a foreshadowing of things to come for the program.

9. Michigan

2010 Attendance: 35,000

Call them gluttons for punishment. Despite going 8-16 the past two years, 35,000 people showed up at Michigan Stadium to see what Rich Rodriguez has in store for 2010. This was really the second spring "game" for the Wolverines, who normally just held a public practice rather than a scrimmage like most other schools. It doesn't appear the defense is fixed as the Blue team won 49-37 after scoring on a 97-yard touchdown touchdown reception.

8. Arkansas

2010 Attendance: 30,000

If Bobby Petrino's creepy

BTW, the writer of this article made several mistakes like putting Tennessee ahead of Texas and Arkansas ahead of Michigan in attendance rankings. Furthermore it says that last year (2009) was Pelini's 1st year as HC.

If I'm not reading it wrong I think he was ranking the schools on the entire Spring Game spectacle not just highest attendance

But I agree that he didn't do much research, so the rankings should be taken with a grain of salt anyway

All I know is that somebody should call down to Tuscaloosa and tell them a thing or two about pre-game entrances. I liked the first part of the video..but that whole elephant thing..brought back nightmares of our 2007 team jumping out of airplanes..

I like the Bama entrance. I've never heard ANYONE use Thunderstruck for a pump-up/entrance video!!!1!

I read it a few times to make sure I wasnt reading it wrong. This writer is a joke.

Alabama Pregame entrance was kinda cool, except for the elephant thing.

Agreed. However reading that tickets were being sold for over $90 for a spring game is amazing. Just imagine if it were free at Nebraska the absolute bedlem that would take place to get into the stadium would be of biblical proportions.

That also doesn't make a lick of sense. Why would you even look somewhere else when the University itself is still selling tickets at face value?
i'm guessing people were willing to pay that for tickets at the 50 yard line, but a lot of that article didn't make sense; especially our disastrous 5-7 season last year, i don't remember that. $90 is crazy, hard to believe.

I do not think Clausen played in the ND spring game either.

Not to accurate, but hey its still the off season.

The guy who wrote this doesn't know what he's talking about because this was Bo's third spring game and I do remember tickets being sold at $90 on ebay for the first spring game that Bo took over.

Yeah, the game that sold out.

That's another thing. Several Nebraska-based websites and papers talked about this year's spring game besting last year's "record" attendance. It's like everyone forgot that the spring game sold out in '08?
