Since I no longer play the sport but now have a son that someday might...I'm all for the "pussification" of football.
But when I did play, I don't remember the final scores..the won/loss records..and only one or two of the cheerleaders..
But what I still remember (And loved about the sport) were the great hits..Except we were taught to try to offer assistance after KO-ing the poor sap.
I have mixed feelings about the suspension and I have NO expectations of this ever being called "consistantly" or even anyone ever being able to call it consistant like.
In my tainted view, it appears that a head to head wasn't Eric's innitial intent..except at the last instant when hat to hat contact was inevitable (too late to turn back or raise a shoulder) Eric leaned his helmet into Hudson (the OSU guy) as a self defensive move (stay with me here).
Everybody knows..the best way to avoid getting hurt in a collision is to lean in to it rather than a "normal" defensive/avoidance move.
Plus the single bullet theory just seems crazy with a field-turf grassy knoll.
