Nebraska football location

Your friend asked a silly question. College football teams don't need "big cities" to be successful. Most college towns are close to population centers, but also away from big cities. Some college towns that are also in state capitols can grow into big cities (Austin, Madison, Columbus) but most state colleges aren't in the biggest cities of the state.

 
The one thing that I always found funny about schools in big cities like LA, Pittsburgh and Miami is that they play their games in "pro stadiums" that are generally aren't on campus. Only the LA Coliseum is near campus, and that place is a dump. The Rose Bowl is nowhere near UCLA, the same for Miami and their current stadium.

Somebody actually gave this enough legitimate thought to come to a message board and create an entire topic about it. So.......let's just go ahead and add this to the list of excuses.

Nebraska can't play big boy football:

Reason # 132: located in Lincoln, not Omaha.

Power T, does your friend know that in the old Big 8, the city with the biggest population was Lincoln? Even if that is expanded to include the Texas schools in the former Big 12, only Austin has a larger population. Colleges aren't usually in big cities.

Almost all of Nebraska recruits fly into Omaha to begin with. They get picked up by hosts/hostesses and are then driven to Lincoln.

Correct. Due to the length of time to commute to Lincoln in consideration of the game times and arrival times, its been mentioned that it makes it tougher to get recruits to the start of some games.
