Charles Davis: 2010 pre season rankings for Florida State (20), Miami (15), Michigan (10), Nebraska (25), Notre Dame (5)

Stewart Mandel: 1) Michigan, 2) Miami, 3) Florida State, 4) Nebraska, 5) Notre Dame

Fiu: Michigan 3rd, Notre Dame 11th, Miami 15th, Nebraska 23rd, Florida State 25th. I have a gut feeling RichRod will get one or two key players, like a Pat White and a Steve Slaton, to quickly turn around the Wolverines. ND will be fine, Miami will be building to one big year, and then be slightly disappointing, Nebraska will be good, but won’t be Nebraska again, and FSU doesn’t seem to have any positive momentum right now.

Richard Cirminiello: Michigan…No. 15. Better get the Wolverines now before Rich Rodriguez recruits well and doesn’t take kindly to losing (see Urban Meyer).

Miami…No. 17. With a year of seasoning for the young kids, the ‘Canes might be ready for an ACC crown.

Nebraska…No. 24. By 2009, Bo Pelini’s fingerprints will be all over the program. In other words, the Blackshirts will be back in Lincoln.

Florida State…unranked. After another season of mediocrity, any optimistic pollsters will have vanished.

Notre Dame…unranked. The Irish will inch closer to the Top 25, but still are a year away.

That's because some of the idiot sportswriters (oxymoron?) ranked the five teams 1 through 5 while the other idiots guessed the actual ranking compared to all teams. So.. the article is essentially worthless, like most guesses as to where a team will be 2 seasons from now. (P.S. - I doubt you could find anyone outside of Lincoln who would rank Nebraska #2 in the very near future)

It's all fun & fluff.

However, my thoughts are:

1) Michigan - unknown; mediocre conference will continue to make this yearly 7-4 team into a 9-2 mirage.

2) Miami - put a fork in 'em.

3) Florida State - someone put a fork in Bobby Bow

4) Nebraska - unknown; I'll specualte improvement each year.

5) Notre Dame - each year they seem to be "a year away". What does that mean? Exactly.

And since when is Michigan "down"? They were like #2 or 3 a few years ago and despite that loss to Appy St. (which upsets do happen, not that big of a deal) they had a very nice season last year.

Then they lost a thousand quarterbacks and brought in RichRod. It'll be a tough transition. This isn't the juggernaut rolling ahead from last year. Its been given a huge facelift. And we Husker fans have a little bit of experience in this area...

It's hard to tell where we are going to be in a few seasons. It all starts with this season and how we build from there.

The one big difference I see is, they will get better once RichRod gets "his" type of players in place and stay a top team year to year. Something our last staff couldn't do. Much better coaching staff starting over in Mich, than we had.

I think it all kind of depends on what we do this year. If we go 6-6 or around that area, we wont get much respect next year. If we go 8-4 we proably can get into the top 25
