Nebraska Kids

You know, I bet all this "heat" wouldn't matter if Solich, Cally, and now Bo (give him a few years) busted out huge seasons...would anyone care who fills our roster if we go to NC games regularly, or contend for them?
If it wouldn't matter then, it shouldn't matter at all. Ever.

I never once figured any of the people around here would have the same views towards things as I do. I have tried to point out inconsistencies in the way Billy C. was treated concerning some things that he did compared to Pelini and the way he has done some thing similarly yet isn’t condemned over them. Sure we are 8-4 but things didn’t always look so shiny until we hit the JV part of the schedule and Bo was still getting a pass when doing some of those Callahanlike things.

As far as this “act” growing tired towards some, there isn’t anything I can do about that, because I’m not going to change and as long as there are contradictions I will be here beating my drum and pointing them out.

I look at it this way, if things are still a mess in our country a couple years from now all of those media types and blowhards’ better being treating Obama the same way they treated ole Bushy. Or how about the way Willingham was treated compared to Weis even though Notre Dame sucks just as bad now as they did then. Or the way San Diego management treated Marty-Ball compared to how Norv is getting a pass. All inconsistencies even though all of these people hold the same position as the person before them just like Billy C. and Pelini. Maybe I’m naïve in thinking that people would be held to the same standards but then again that could just be me.

I believe the group of people I am talking about is the same dorks that got mad about Billy C. and his band of gypsies wearing all black sweat-suits on the sidelines. They went to Stevie P. about all of their grievances. I may be wrong but I will look it up to double check.

How many of these threads have I started anyway? Maybe I should just stick to the standard thread starting topics of:

I love Joe Ganz

Roy Helu should start

Black-out this Saturday

When is Bo going give out the Blackshirts?

What Bowl are we going to?

I’ll try harder next time.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go find a puppy to hug and a pot to stir-up.
A) Callahan was an ego maniac. He tried to put his "stamp" on a major college football program, by changing everything.

B) Things are going to probably be a mess in a couple years, and nobody wants to realize it. But will the incomming president be treated the same as the old? Of course not, everyone, except me, has a proverbial boner, but i'm not buying the pixie dust sprinking thats going to turn this country around.

C) It's very easy for all of us to be armchair QB.

D) Sorry if some of us can't come up with better topics than your in depth expose's as to how many in state kids we're recruiting. We'll try harder, I promise.

give me a break. your bo basking is just too much. the JV part of the schedule? you mean the heart of the conference schedule? and we are in the best conference in the country.... and before you bash the north remember that we played 2 of the 3 best south teams.... both on the road. did we look bad at times? yes. but bo took a bad team and made them decent in one year.

How come this staff hasn’t received criticism like the previous staff did for only have 2 of 18 recruits being Nebraska kids? :madash I could careless how many in-state kids get scholarships however there were plenty that demanded Billy C take a certain amount every year. Are the 2 that have committed the only D-1 prospects in the state this year that are worth taking? Are there a few that we still have a hand in that we may end up giving scholarships to or are we trying to get more in-state kids to walk-on? Is that kid from Millard South that people have been chubbing over since his first year at Omaha Central still in the mix?

Like I said, I personally think the number is a non issue, I just wonder where all those people are that were demanding in-state kids be signed from 04-07. Do they still feel the same way or did they realize that there are only so many in-state kids that actually deserve scholarships? :dunno
I'll be completely honest and say I would have preferred we did not offer a single in-state kid this year. Pensick is a marginal talent at best. I can kinda see the Zimmerer offer, but I would have offered him late in the process if he had garnered offers elsewhere. Otherwise, the kid was likely going to walk-on.

I could really careless where a kid is from. BC's style didn't bother me as long as he honestly believed he was offering the best talent available. Now his talent evaluations may be another thing, but as long as the coaches are chasing the best kids out there it should not make a difference where they come from.

ISU, Baylor, KU, KSU, CU aside from the OU game between Baylor and KU that schedule is pretty much the JV section of the Big 12. How many of those teams have winning records? I'll give you a hint it is the number before 2 and rhymes with bun. I know you can't help the conference schedule but come on that is a bad stretch of teams. KSU and ISU may be the 2 worst teams in Big 12 history.

Bo took a terribly coached team of kids not playing up to their potential and helped them win all the games they should have won.(which is something that the previous goofs couldn't do) He didn't walk on water or perform miracles he got the kids to play better then they did last year which is a good thing however a coach should win 8-9 games every year at Nebraska. We were just blinded by that with the failures of the previous staff.

For the record I'm glad that Pelini is the coach that doesn't mean I can't question things that don't jive and point out contradictions.

many of those JV teams blew us out of the water last year. CU, KU and baylor would not be a jv team if not for playing in the big 12. if they were in the big east, big 10 or pac 10 they would be one of the better teams. those were quality wins and much more than just picking up gimme's. he took us from terrible to average in his first year here and his 1st year as a HC. everything about that is remarkable

I am not going here...think this could be called pot stirring unless you can come up with some Nebraska kids that have interest and talent that want to go to Nebraska that aren't getting a serious look. There is always the walk on program...if they have the talent.

I'm glad Callahan's gone. Didn't care for his personal style, going back to the cowardly way he handled his last season with the Oakland Raiders.

But if we're all being perfectly honest here, this season feels exactly like Callahan's second season. 8 and 4 with an inspirational win against Colorado (on the road and by a big margin), a great come-from-behind victory in a legitimate bowl game, and the unmistakable feeling of a program on the upswing.

And Callahan's third season? Well he did deliver the Big 12 North title we now covet and almost upset a Top 10 team in a major bowl game.

I think we have to be ready for the very real possibility that Bo might not be able to top this season next season, when he has to continue to upgrade the defense while breaking in a new quarterback. Argue style points and personality all you want, but in terms of x's and o's, wins and losses, no jury can come in on Bo Pelini "turning things around" for another two seasons.

And do keep in mind that Bo was smart enough not to hasten back to the glory days of the triple option, and instead retained Callahan's offensive coordinator, who we can thank for an 11th ranked, well-balanced and enormously entertaining offense.

Is that stirring the pot?

Cause I consider it talking about football.

Remember, life is all about expectation management.

Hey new, I was just pulling your chain. I agree there are different standards now, but I really do not care. You are not getting any grief over the thread from me.

I just wondered what happened to the that guy that said no more controversy, just positive threads about big warm sunny days, flowers and puppies.

You bring up good points and questions, don't take what some of us say as an attack, mine certainly was not.

It must be the gravy hangover getting the best of me or the lack of sleep or maybe the cold weather.

I know you didn't mean anything by your comments. I was just taking it and running with it. For the record I was stirring the pot.

My roses and lollipops lasted longer then I thought it would though.

I really truly believe that because of the mess that was last year people are numb to some things that used to ruffle their feathers. I guess though winnning cures all.

Well, i'm sorry that we didn't blow out ISU, BU, KU, KSU, and CU by like 700. Did we win, yes. Were they pretty wins, no. I'm not worried about style points, but "W's".

Is there something wrong with getting kids to win games they should? No, he didn't do any of the aforementioned water walking or miracle working, but he got us to a new years day bowl, which the previous ding dong's failed to accomplish. Not too mention he did this with kids he did not recruit.

Well now that you got what you wanted a buch of hits and comments on your subject here. I was just wondering where you sit on the same question? There has been some pretty darn goods points made, and now I am wondering where you sit. :dunno

I could careless how many in-state kids get scholarshipsLike I said, I personally think the number is a non issue

Also I said I don’t care how many in-state kids we give scholarships to
Here are my views from my first 2 posts in this thread.

My beef isn’t the not taking of in-state kids; my thing is that there was an outcry against Billy C for not taking a set number of in-state kids (by a group of fans and former players) yet 2 of 18 gets a pass.
It's pretty obvious you're not concerned with how many instate kids get scholarship offers..But this is not the first thread you've started pointing out that we've treated Bo differently than Billy..

Why all the insistance in fair play? If you feel BC didn't get a fair shake, is it bothering you so much.. that you don't want others to give Bo one?

It's been 'splained to you by several posters that you cannot compare apples to banannas.

I was wondering about something earlier tonight..

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that when BC brought the WCO to NU, a lot of schools in the area were switching to the WCO to help prepare the local kids for a more better chance at playing here at NU..or something like that.

What Offense are the High schools running now?
