Nebraska to play in 2011 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic?

Sean Callahan has a thread over at RSS about it. I searched Google for confirmation and the only thing I could find was Wikipedia, but it didn't have a source to back it up.

According to the Wikipedia entry, we're scheduled to play South Carolina on Sept. 3rd, 2011. Interestingly enough, our 2011 schedule is open on that date, so I guess it is possible?

Another thing too is each team collects a cool $1.9 million. The game is played at the Georgia Dome and is a nationally televised game on ABC.

Stay tuned...

Smacking around the ole Ball Coach shouldn't be too hard. Everyone else is doing it nowadays. Honestly, I don't think I've seen a perennial 8-5 or 9-4 team get more pub in my time on this earth, although living in Iowa, the Hawkeyes come in a close second (excluding last year).

As much as I would like to see the Huskers kick the crap out of Spurrier again, I dont see this happening. Like it was mentioned in the thread about playing LSU in 2011, we usually play a BCS team, a upper non bcs team, mid level non-bcs team and then a lower level non-bcs team. I just dont see us adding another BCS conference team especially in a year we are geting situated to a new Big 10 schedule.

Osborne used to use the Kickoff Classic and Coaches Classic as a stepping stone when he thought he had a team worthy of playing for a NC. P state in 83 and WV in 93 for example.

True but still only a couple of instances where we did do that, it didn't happen that often. I am sure it could happen because there are instances we do break away from the normal schedule but I dont think we will do it. With Washington being a BCS conf team and both Fresno state and wyoming made bowl games last year. I think we add a easy gimme type come to complete the OOC schedule. Just my opinion.

Something tells me that this game isn't actually going to happen, but if it did, man would it be awesome. I'd get to see South Carolina get smacked in the face, two consecutive weeks in a row and only have to drive roughly 120 miles round-trip.
