Nebraska vs Missouri

I apparently missed some drama with a TE...but either way, these stats (edit: the ones directly above, I somehow completely missed the rest of the post... ) are pretty misleading when you don't temper them with some real analysis.  Especialy when the stats are only from one game from 3 weeks ago.
Misleading how? Rojo gave a good breakdown of 1 common opponent both teams have faced, and that's Iowa St. We both faced that team within 2 weeks of each other, so it's not like Missouri met up with Iowa St at the begining of the season and we met up with them at the end of the season.

You keep forgetting that ISU gave up 2 turnovers that were taken in for TD's or Mizzou is a loser.....
And had our defense not got 3 tunovers against Wake, or Ickes blocked the field goal against Pitts, we would be 3-3..what's your point? It' doesn't matter if ISU gave up turnovers, what matters is how Misosuri came back and scored on those TD's. Period. Plain and simple. End of story. Next time, try to make an actual point that isn't argumenative from 100 different angles. I don't live in a dillusional world and run with the if's, but's, coulda, shoulda, woulda. You have made it obvious you do.

Also we blew a late FG because a fumble by ZT...or we win by 3 in regulation
News flash..we did blow a late fg and we didn't win by 3 in regulation. Again..what's your point, other then coulda, woulda shoulda. We shoulda knocked down the pass against Tech, but we didn't. We coulda hung on to the tipped pass against Tech and been 6-0 right now, but we aren't. Again i ask..what's your point?

First it was your fixation with a freshman TE whom you think is goin to save the world...and now you have trotted out this list of stats that all Husker fans know are fairly bogus for reason I have stated above.....can we move on?....
Save the world? Are you high? When did i say he was going to save the world. I guess when Coach Callahan goes on tv and says that their receivers present a problem because they are all 6-3 or taller, he's just leading us on. It's rather sad and even more pathetic that you can sit behind a computer, call a kid a loser just because he decided to attend another University and turned the Husker down. Your are all class armstead. Please do not comment on this thread unless you have something smart to say, because all i have heard from you is garbage post after post.

i guess from now on, lets just ask armistead what he thinks. If he thinks a team sucks, lets just automatically put the game in the W column and move on without even playing the game.

Now you see what I'm up agin....Big Red Jake gets it and you don't.....Those stats are really worthless because soo many factors affect what happens in a game.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda are not what you want to base an entire argument on ,but you do have to take into account the Huskers are 2...only 2 very unlikeley and unfortunate fumbles away from beating ISU in regulation and Beating Texas Tech........Thats a fact......when I say unlikely I don't think Smith would fumble that ball agin if he had another 100 chances.....Neither would ZT fumble inside the 15 agin ISU......will you please stop with this attack opn me and just move on.

You are becoming fixated on stuff that is totally bogus and you know it.....I think maybe you want to be right so bad that you will argue a point you know you should concede....Hell, one time I thought I was wrong, turned out I was right

I think that I can find you a Men of Mizzou calender if you want it...let me know and I will e-mail the school bookstore...my treat if we can bury the hatchet....OK?

I sure hope this clears thing up

you friend

Armistead

Do you know if those stats are regulation only, Nameless? I can't tell and can't look up stats on this comp.

As to

Pure stats are completely worthless unless you've got some decent contextual analysis to back them up. Just my opinion. I didn't see the ISU/Mizzou game so I have absolutely no context in which to put those stats, that's the basic problem I have here.

I think the stats do prove that the two teams are fairly even and both Nameless and Armistead both have great points. But to assume that the game will be close just because the stats are close would be wrong. Just because we compare statistically for one game does not give us any insight of how either team will perform come this weekend. Anything could happen on any given saturday.

That's my whole point. That was rojo's whole point. Stats are one thing, playing on the field is another thing. The stats i included in my original thread were to show comparisons between NU's offense and Missouri's defense and vice versa. Rojo's stats were to show what we did against ISU and what they did, regardless if the stats were in regulation or not. And also his point was to show why odd makers opened Missouri as a 3 point favorite at home. Keep in mind, when we played in Columbia 2 years ago, we came in with the number 1 defense, and we all know what Brad Smith did to our defense. We gave up 300 yards and 4 touchdowns. We are ranked 11th in the nation in total defense. Just something to think about

Armstead, i said to zip it unless you can say something valid, and you have yet to bring anything informative to this argument. If stats are so worthless, then why did you try to argue with formerfan about who was better between Zac Taylor and Joe Dailey in a previous thread. For somoene who thinks stats are worthless, why even bother?

I think maybe you want to be right so bad that you will argue a point you know you should concede
You are right, i mean how dare i argue a point that is backed up by facts. :rollin :sarcasm

From rojo:

Sacks: Zac will be sacked more. And the Blackshirts will get less.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I. Will the Blackshirts Get Many Sacks?

Brad Smith has only been sacked six times in six games.

Sacks Against: (Through 6 games)

1. Texas A&M........... 4

2. Missouri............ 6

3. Colorado............ 7

4. Texas............... 8

5. Nebraska............ 11

6. Kansas.............. 12

7. Baylor.............. 13

8. Kansas State........ 14

9. Oklahoma............ 14

10. Texas Tech.......... 16

11. Oklahoma State...... 16

12. Iowa State.......... 21

.

II. We haven’t yet played a strong pass-rush team. That’s tomorrow. (And the following two weeks). Will Missouri sack Zac??

Cory Ross:

“They can bring a blitz from anywhere. They’re so scattered around, you can’t ever tell what’s really going on. But you know they’re going to blitz, blitz, blitz.”

Coach Callahan:

“They’re going to be a real heavy blitz team. That’s what they like to do. They’re a team that loves to pressure. It’s kind of like playing the Pittsburgh Steelers; they blitz every down. They have an amazingly high percentage blitz on first and second down. They’ll blitz you on third down…. They like the pressure aspect of the game, and they do it not only against the passing game, but they do it equally as well against the running game….”

How effective has Mizzou been with their blitz? Not outstanding. Better-than-average.

Sacks By: (Through 6 games)

1. Nebraska............ 34

2. Oklahoma............ 19

3. Kansas.............. 19

4-5 Missouri............ 15

4-5 Texas............... 15

6-8 Texas A&M........... 14

6-8 Baylor.............. 14

6-8 Oklahoma State...... 14

9. Texas Tech.......... 13

10. Iowa State.......... 12

11. Kansas State........ 10

12. Colorado............ 9

Tackles-For-Loss by Defenses: (Through 6 games)

1. Kansas: 83

2. Nebraska: 70

3. Oklahoma: 62

4. Texas 53

5. Missouri: 50

6. Oklahoma State: 41

7-8 Iowa State: 36

7-8 Texas A&M: 36

9-10 Kansas State: 35

9-10 Texas Tech: 35

11 Colorado: 33

12 Baylor: 31

III. Expect Season-Low Sack Numbers from the Blackshirts.

It isn’t Maine. It’s Missouri. And Brad Smith doesn’t stand still.

Nebraska Sacks:

--vrs Maine: 10

--vrs Wake Forest: 5

--vrs Pittsburgh: 4

--vrs Iowa State: 6

--vrs Texas Tech: 4

--vrs Baylor: 4

Three of the last four games our sack numbers have been less than extraordinary…

The Bottom Line:

1) Iowa State, Texas Tech, Baylor---all were lower-echelon pass-rush teams. Zac will get more heat tomorrow than he's seen before...

2) For our part…. Efforts spent on containing Brad Smith might be better-spent than efforts invested in trying to sack him.

Just some things to think about….

Will we see more screens and draws? Roy
