Nebrasketball Lands Wisconsin Transfer Kobe King

Kobe King — who left Wisconsin in the middle of this season — is coming to Nebraska, a source confirmed to The World-Herald. King played three seasons at Wisconsin and averaged 10 points per game with 2.8 rebounds as a sophomore. NU will submit a waiver for his immediate eligibility. If that is denied, he’ll sit out one year and will have two seasons to play.

King and the Huskers have been in talks for weeks about a visit, but King chose to commit on Wednesday anyway. A source said there is not currently a visit set up before he enrolls after this semester.

Will add to the competition for minutes at the G and G/f positions between Mack, Banton, Allen, Stevenson, Green, and Burke next year.

How can he play 5 seasons (3 at wiscy and 2 in Lincoln.  Do BB guys get 5 yrs eligibility plus a rs year?

Based on year 1 Fred maybe ought to look for more freshman and less transfer 1 & dones.  He is obviously not having much luck revruiting to play now well.   I dont get to watch but we are losing a lot!

Anyone know why he left Wisconsin?

Article on him leaving here

King is as naturally gifted as any recruit to come out of Wisconsin in the last decade, aside from maybe a few guys in high school right now. He was, and may still be, a player with a legitimate shot at the NBA.

No one knows the true facts of King’s transfer, and he’s had no history of any sort of poor character. So don’t drag him for doing what he believes is best for his future.

It very well could be something personal that's totally not related to basketball.

I just always find it odd when a player (especially one that's getting major playing time and being successful) leaves a program in the middle of a season.

Hopefully a new environment will be what he's looking for and builds off of what he did this year.

He was injured after 10 games as a true freshman.  It seems that he would be expected to get a medical hardship for that year.

My guess is being a Wisconsin kid, he felt pressure to stay home and the style of play does not fit him.   He had a cousin or a friend that played for Fred at Iowa St. and he liked the style.
