Nebrasketball vs Ohio State

I'm sure you see it "happen" a lot.  But you're apparently not paying any attention to why it's "happening."

We often dribble out front for an extended time.  It's not just Worster.  Williams does it as well.  Same with others.  We are often slow getting into our offense.  They are waiting for screens to be set and other movement to happen so they have someone to cut to start the offense.  That's how our offense works.

We are often "slow" to get to shooters.  It's because we are constantly double-teaming and scrambling to recover.  It's not just Worster.  It's literally everyone guarding wing players.  It's how our defense tries to operate.  When you have to try to guard two guys, it's impossible to pressure both of them like you should.  That's the trade off we're making.  Blame the coaches for how it looks.
Why do you fix one 1 item.  There is noone on scholarship that plays as bad as he does, except Ulis & thats a maybe.  Yes, him & Brice dribble a lot, but Brice is a scorer & Worster is not.  He is a poor shooter, takes bad shots & is an average ball handler.  He missed several guys for layups on Sunday.  He rebounds well, because he does not close out.  He is either too slow on close outs or let's someone else do it.  I'm sure this is why him & Brice had a heated discussion on the floor a couple games ago.  Everyone on this team does stupid things at times, but Worster has had 1 fair to good game in big 10 play.  His ball handling at the end of the game was terrible.  Threw the ball away twice & it could have been more.

You are right.  You are obviously much smarter and know more about basketball than the Division 1 coaches that have started him in 121 games over the past five years.

I didn't like the guy earlier in the year but you are blind if you aren't seeing the progression.  He is head and shoulders above Ulis and he does score occasionally and seems to handle pressure shots and free throws pretty dang well.  He isn't perfect but he is a hell of a lot better than you are making him out to be.

To back my argument with stats -

During the first 12 games, he turned the ball over 22 times.  In the last 12 games, he has 10 turn overs, against much better competition.  He is also averaging 8 points a game on 44.6% shooting.

I agree that we have horrible point guards, but Worster plays because he is the best of 2 evils. Stats mean nothing if you don't use minutes played.  There are a few games were he played less then 15 min. due to being benched and/or fouls.  There are absolutely no good ball handlers on this team & Brice can not play all the time.  Ulis, Sam & Conner are not ball handlers.  Your are looking at it one sided.  His job is to handle the ball & run an offense.  He is not reliable scorer, does not handle pressure very well for pg, is lazy on def. at times & his basketball IQ is questionable.  Not one player on this team is perfect, not even Brice.  But other than ulis, all others bring something to the game, whether it's scoring, def, hustle, ect.  He looked ok against weaker competition, but not against the big 10 teams.  The announcers even questioned at the end of the game against ohio st. why he dribbled once than got double teamed with nowhere to go. It was not a mistake, as he did it several times.

He has played less than 15 minutes in exactly zero games.

But don't let the facts get in the way of a good argument.
Non-conf. Game Stats - 28.7 min. & 5.3 RB.

Conf. - 25.1 min. & 3.5 RB.  Less starts in conf.

Asst 2, pts 7.5  & 1 steal per game - no diff. Between non & conf.  He has cleaned up the TO a little.

There is very little proof that he has gotten better!

So as competition DRAMATICALLY  increases, and somones stats don't drop off but actually improve slightly, that isn't a sign of improvement?  OK.

If you agree that 2 asst., 1 steal, 50% on layups & 7 pts for 20+ min. per game is good.  Good for you. I can live with 7 pts, but the rest is not enough for the amount of min. he is on the court.

See…this is message board gold! We are arguing how good or not good the 7th-9th best player on our team is…where else would you find this kind of passion?  I love it!
With the 3rd most min.

It seems that there are some who are always right no matter what on this board.  In 10+ yrs on this board, I have never argued a point to this extent.  Just got tired of it & decided to stand my point.  Believe it won't end.

Hard to admit when you are wrong...  Nobody has ever painted him as good enough or great or whatever.  Many of us have acknowledged his improvements and "serviceability" on the team in his current role.  We would all like someone better, in every position.  That said, this team is pretty damn good by Nebraska standards and could end up being the best we have ever had.  Worster is a big part of that, like it or not.  Constantly bagging on a kid who is giving his all just seems odd during a year like we are having.
