Need teaching advice - high school

Please please please, DO NOT try to be the teacher that "saves" kids that don't need saving. Being snotty is not something that a kid needs to be saved from. It is not worth your time.

Pick your battles
I'm not sure if you were referring to my comments but I may need to clarify. I did not assume that these kids were simply being snotty sophomore girls. Rather, I assumed that they, like many kids I've run across, don't have parental involvement or any help at all at home. I usually assume this when the kids fail to see that they are just waasting their time if they aren't going to put forth any effort. My encouragement to "save" them was based on it possibly being the first ever time anyone had ever actually told them they won't succeed without some effort. Once you know they have heard that a few times and it's been explained fully, well then they are responsible for the consequences of their actions. Overcoming poor parenting and bad circumstances probably doesn't happen often but, when it does, I imagine it would give a teacher hope to keep trying.

Yeah, I understand, I know what you mean and your thoughts are in the right place, they really are. I was just putting in my 2 cents and thoughts with the years of teaching/coaching that I have.

This is probably a lot less like Dangerous Minds and a lot more like American Pie, as far as how these kids are acting.

One thing to remember, right now, they don't hate you, they don't hate the class, they don't hate the school. They just kind of hate everything because right now, they are to cool for the world.

This may be the most spot-on thing of all time.
Did it work out?
As soon as they walked in the door today, I greeted them with a smile and they said something along the lines of, "We are here with a better attitude today."

I just got the sense that I got the point across yesterday, so that was all that was said, and we continued with the class.

Also, another reason that I think I got my point across is because girl Z FINALLY brought her stain so she could finish her project, and supposedly girl X will have her lumber on Monday. So good things going on :D

And my cooperating teacher will be back Monday as well.
