Never surrender BEFORE the game

Nebraska is a storied program and the team under Coach Callahan is improving each year. That improvement showed in the first game. The team should always have the mindset going in that they are going to win. Sure there may be teams with more talent but that is why the games are played. (See: Appalaccian State vs Michigan). If you don't think your team can win go ahead and notify the NCAA that you are not going to play the game. Then organize something worthwhile such as a charity flag football or softball game in its place. Obviously not gonna happen but you get the sentiment.

There are many naysayers and so called realists which are already writing off Nebraska before the game is played. Let it be decided ON THE FIELD.

I believe you don't understand the difference between naysayers and realists.

Naysayers only express negatives. Naysayers would look at a game like USC and say, "There's no way we can win. It's a one in a hundred chance, at best." In their minds, it just can't be done because the negatives come first and are most important.

Realists see positive and negative. Realists will tell you Nebraska has a decent chance to upset USC when you look at all the factors, but that doesn't mean Nebraska should win most of the time or is a better team. Since there are far more positives for Nebraska as an improving team than negatives, realists will usually be pretty positive about Nebraska, with a few negative observations sprinkled in.

To be honest, I find it insulting that you group naysayers and realists into the same category. If there is further confusion, dictionary.com should provide adequate definitions.

great point! we sure do have a chance, but physically and on paper we are a bit overmatched, but then so was A State.

:yeah

Before the games I would have thought we have a better chance against USC than AS did against Michigan. We have a reasonable chance of pulling off the upset.

i sure would agree with that! very embarrassing for Carr and his kids. Boise state, Rugers, Louisville and now A State. Parity has never been greater, i doubt any team goes undefeated in regular season this year.

How about we wait until Nebraska plays WF, then we can all talk about how no one is giving NU a chance against you-know-who. Even after that, let's see how that game goes before there is any more complaining that ESPN analysts are out for hate against the University of Nebraska

There never was any confusion on my stance. I'm not going to write a thesis but I will expand on this trivial point. Naysayers and realists are expressed in the same sentence because those are two groups that have stated openly that Nebraska will lose particular games whether they be Wake Forest, USC or Texas. Yet a sentence can also contain two categories: in this case naysayers (non Nebraska fans) and realists (a subgroup of Nebraska fans). The Nebraska fanbase includes all types such as the rose colored glasses wearing Kool-Aid drinkers. I don't subscribe to that viewpoint either. I see the flaws and believe they can be improved on.

If you believe that I insulted you then good. That means that you feel strongly about something and are willing to fight for your convictions. You appear to be a glass half-full type of person which is great. The world and this site needs more like you.

I wasn't specifically pointing to the USC game. There are those that believe we will lose the Wake Forest game as well. It actually doesn't matter what the record is. It is a matter of having a positive winning mindset. Nebraska can be 0-1, 1-1, 0-2 or whatever approaching a particular game. They have to believe going in that they are going to win. Hopefully that is always the case.

Winning isn't based on talent alone. The teams of the mid 90's had great talent but they also had that mindset. At that time the team had Dr Stark as the team psychologist but he left under Coach Solich's term.

Are you trying to say the mindset of the fans plays into the outcome of a game? That's ludicrous.

No. It is the mindset of the team that helps determine the outcome. I'm just saying people shouldn't write off a particular game before it's even played.

I agree because if we are doing it our team may be doing it and that would be a nightmare!!!!

I'm not sure anyone is "writing off" the Wake game. Granted, I put them on my list of possible losses for this season, but that doesn't mean I think we're going to lose and there's no sense in playing the game. Heck after what I saw Saturday from the two teams there's no reason we should lose. Now USC, on the other hand, I'm having trouble seeing a scenario where we can beat them other than them giving us the game. They really don't have any weaknesses. Should I just hold on to false hope and think that we're going to magically find a way to win? Seems a little far-fetched to me.
