I can finally give Coz some credit.

I liked (not loved) his scheme against iSU.

However:

1) Why in the heck are our DB's still playing 5 yards off on third and 3?

2) How in the heck does iSU get a first down on third and 19?

3) How does being 6-5 give you an advantage over someone 5-9 when the 5-9 player isn't even close to the 6-5 guy? I mean, at least try to break up the pass...why concede the completion?

4) Why do the DB's look like they're running in mud?

5) How does the injury to ONE player (albeit a possible all-American) make ALL of NU's DB's bad?

WTH?

Oh, and one more thing...is Washington really better than NU?

Well, I thought Shanle did a good job, Cos putting him in a zone to potentially back up Grixby was a good move.

I foresee Andre Jones being much better down the line, but right now he's just inexperienced.

But Grixby just doesn't have it. Any of it.

The problem with the DBs after Bowman goes down is two-fold.

1. Bowman is not guarding their best receiver.

2. Grixby is then guarding their best receiver, or Jones, and neither of them is even close to the same level as Bowman.

It is just a vicious cycle. Their number 2 receiver is guarded by our number 3 DB, so on and so on.

So you don't get burned like Eric's french toast, for a TD. I'd love to run bump and run, but you can't when you are Grixby.

Hard to cover for 7-10 seconds. In those plays we are usually in Zone. One I am thinking of specifically Green got a late break on the ball.

It's all about not giving up the big play, really. Considering you are outmanned anyway, is it really wise to go for a huge play on defense that you probably won't make? Especially considering in man coverage, it could easily go for a TD?

4) Why do the DB's look like they're running in mud?
Not real sure what your getting at.

5) How does the injury to ONE player (albeit a possible all-American) make ALL of NU's DB's bad?
Being thin at that position and losing out on a few defensive recruits over the past two years will do that. Reggie Smith comes to mind as far as DB's. Ashlee Palmer?

Defensive line's getting to be kind of the same way. Who's going to step in next year? Rulon Davis? Maybe if he got here.

Oh, and one more thing...is Washington really better than NU?
Is USC really good without Dwayne Jarret? He had one catch Saturday.

Thanks for the responses.

As far as our DB's running in mud...they just look SLOW...
Yea, I'd agree to a point. I think it comes back to giving them a large cushion. You gotta close quickly and they do, but occasionally they are just too far away to really get there unless you are superman.

Jones is playing better and better every game, kind of like Bowman last year. I like his progression so far.

Yeah Jones is getting better and I can't stand it when QB's throw to Grixby's side!!!! I just hold my breath and wait for the catch..........

Washusker,I totally agree with you.I'm a Big BC supporter, but every time our pass offense looks good, his USC plan looks stupider.I'd love to get another crack at them with BC pulling out all stops, though USC was ripe to be beat on THAT day, and it prob would be different next time.

He said, she said. Everyone knows that our secondary is weak. It is no secret. But that just makes our team that much better if we keep on winning like we are doing right now. USC was a sucky game, but we picked ourselves up and havent looked back. Nobody is ever going to happy unless we win 77-0 and win a National Championship three times in a row. Then maybe, ESPN could pronounce our players names right.

Our secondary is getting better. It will be a strength next season with Bowman, Jones, Thenarse, and Wilson. Also we may pickup a couple JC DB's in this next class.

I miss the days when we could always depend on our secondary. We've had a boat load of defensive backs drafted into the NFL over the last 10 to 15 years.
