New Husker Tradition Idea

I think there are some other things that can be done....planting corn in the stadium makes NU look like a bunch of hicks and nothing but farmers. I think the numbers of the All-Americans and Academic All-Americans, the bricks with people's names on them, and the sellout streak is enough to show the heritage and traditions of the University.

Why not embrace it rather than run from it. ^^ Nebraska will never be a hip place.

He's not saying plant it on the 50 yard line.

Georgia has the hedges. It has it's place there.

Playing between the hedges and between the corn rows are entirely two different things.

Hmmm...considering the tax subsidies offered to farmers nowadays, this could actually be a fantastic idea! Of course you would need to plant the minimum amount of corn needed to qualify for a tax break but...if the break were big enough, I'm sure we could manage.

And corn wouldn't take a lot of looking after. Water it once in a while if needed, get the plants plenty of sun...and no worries about expensive fertilizer since CU and KU are both coming to town to get the sh*t beat out of them anyway...should be plenty to spare for the corn.

Not crazy about being a "progressive" state..... I like the idea of living in "fly over" country, keeps the crazys out... Just look at "Progressive" Berkely, big pack of jerks....

This would also save the networks gas money. Instead of driving out of town to get their shot of corn fields they could just get the shot outside the stadium. ;)

Unfortunately, we ran from the tradition many years ago. I think it was when I was in college when we changed our name from the Cornhuskers to just the Huskers which was in the early 90's. The thought process when changing the name was that Cornhuskers painted a negative image to incoming recruits and the student body where we were trying to attract students from other states besides Nebraska.

You can't just run back to a tradition after you've thrown it under the bus.

That is one of the worst ideas I have every heard, the rest of the country already thinks that all Nebraska is are farms, lets just add another reason for them to think that

:clap

Let them thunk it...then come in and get their butts kicked by a bunch of sand hillbillies and hicks. Put the cheerleaders in daisy dukes and the coaches in overalls for all I care. I don't really give a rat's a$$ what the rest of the country thinks of us, just as long as when they come in they get their tails kicked and spend some money.

We could go back to the original name of "Bugeaters"....then would you worry about what they think of us? Not me...pass the crickets, I like 'em crunchy.

Personally I could not give a flying donkeys rear end what they think.

We do not have the Seminoles mascot.

We do not hvae the Trojans Traveler.

We have what we have and we should be proud of it. We got Bob, I mean little red, what more could we ask for?

Seriously we do not have one of the neatest mascot ideas. But we are unique, There are no other Cornhuskers out there. Be proud of it. It comes from years of hard work, love of the country and dedication by your parents, parents and their parents. I am very proud to be a Cornhusker fan. Our name means going the last mile, doing the uneasy jobs, finishing what we start. Those are things that your children should grow up with.

Unfortunately the mascot is not intimidating at this time. But just a few years back, no one made fun of it and were scared to death to see us on the schedule. They new the boys of the corn were coming to kick som serious butt. We shall return Huskers, pe proud of what we are is all the poster was saying.

Kind of hard to make a cornhusker intimidating isn't it....course we could put a black robe on him and a sickle.....

Something to talk about (or not) during this downtime and cold weather.

I think a cool tradition would be to plant, near or inside (somewhere) the stadium some rows of corn. Seeds could be planted by alumni, captains, seniors, or some other similar vip or notable husker. They could be planted in some area with marble/stone boundaries with some poetic/inspiring script on it. Maybe in the same architectural style as the capitol building. Dirt could be brought in from all over the state. Good opportunity for symbolism.

They could even use the corn seeds in some fashion during spring practice or winter training representing number of hours worked, records broken or some other symbolic deal.

By fall, the corn would be ready to "harvest" but could serve as a focal point of sorts for rally's, pregames and even TV shots.

This could be used as a get back to "old school" Nebraska values and traditions stemming from the agrarian nature of the state. In this (Pederson) corporate culture, we seem to want to distance ourselves from anything that seems too Nebraska.

I agree we need to foster a modern progressive image for the state. I agree we need to do away with some of the "hick" aspects of our image.

On the other hand, corn is at the heart of our name and our state. The corn motif is all over our capitol and civic buildings and that is done in very classy fashion.

Let me know your thoughts or if they already have this somewhere.
Not that bad of an idea actually.
