Earlier, my FanHouse colleague Ryan Ferguson brought you the story of Derek Baldry, a former Army Ranger who will suit up for Florida in 2007. Today we bring you the story of another veteran who will play in 2007 for Nebraska. Tyrone Fahie will be a walk-on defensive end for the Huskers this fall. According to his official bio at Nebraska's athletic site:

Tyrone Fahie (pronounced FOY) joined the Nebraska program this winter after six years on active duty with the U.S. Military. In the last three years, Fahie has completed two tours in Iraq, where he worked for Seal Team One as a support communicator. Fahie earned a spot on the roster through the Huskers' walk-on tryouts before spring practice.

Fahie will be a redshirt freshman for the Huskers this fall and will line up at defensive end, where he is listed as a reserve at base end. Fahie capped a solid spring practice by making three tackles in the Red-White contest. Fahie is originally from Virginia Beach, Va.

Stories like those about Baldry and now Fahie, help to put college football in its proper perspective. They remind us not only, of our country's on-going military conflicts, but also of the type of men who often take the field in our gridiron battles. Fahie should have a chance to make some noise in Lincoln this fall. The Huskers graduated their entire defensive front four from 2006.

This is exactly the kind of kid we need, he knows about sacrifice, dedication and hard work.....Great addition, this team needs some heart and mental toughness and I think thats what he will bring. Cant wait to see him on Satudays.......GBR
