I would pick Limp Bizkit over Linkin Park anyday and would say that Limp Bizkit had more popular songs and has a bigger fan base

Which is dwarfed by musical luminaries like Britney Spears, N'Sync, and Nickelback.

Singles and sales don't mean talent, compadre.

One could easily argue it does though. Britney Spears, N'Sync, and Nickelback are/have been some of the most talented musicians worldwide. I'm not a fan of either of those three musicians/bands, but they all have/had millions of fans and their sales prove it, as well as the numerous awards/platinum cd's they had. You have to like em if you're going to buy em. And, if a lot of people are buying, a lot of people are liking.

That said, I'm not the one who is going to argue that. I tend to avoid any Nickelback talks considering they used to be one of my favorite bands and now I think they are gigantic sell outs.

IMO, Linkin Park began to pawn their sound piecemeal the minute Hybrid Theory sold half a gagillion copies, and with what I've heard of this album, the garage sale has just about ended. For one album they were a band in an age of singles that you could actually feel justified dropping fifteen bucks on. They were always inconsistent songwriters, but over time I think the problem has gotten worse. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry at Minutes to Midnight. In their defense, they're not Simon and Garfunkel and probably never wanted to be, but the regression of the whole product has left me with them where I'm at with all modern rock and nu-metal––I just don't care, it's too boring.

Not to take a dump on what people like (the best band is the one you love, whatever anyone says), but Linkin Park simply isn't talented enough to reinvent their entire sound, especially when their most praiseworthy album worked mostly because they turned simplicity into a kind of originality with what I'd call sound effects (someone help me out if there's a technical term for the industrial bang of "By Myself" or even "Papercut"). Out of fairness I'll give the whole thing a listen one of these days, but my initial reaction is that they've completed their descent into mediocrity.
Great post. +1

Meh, I'd be interested to see just how many people prefer one over the other. Limp Bizkit has always been a little too...stupid..for me. Don't take that the wrong way if you are a fan, but it's just my personal taste naturally. I think Linkin Park may end up being the more timeless band some day.

I like bands that change things up, no reason to buy 10 albums if they all sound like the first one. Metalica is a prime example, they are still one of the best hard rock/metal bands out there, and their music has aged with them, as with current bands like Linkin Park and even Slipknot. I always get a kick out of someone who says they love Stone Sour but hates Slipknot...

I'm not sure what kind of music you guys pay attention to, or if you follow trends, but Linkin Park has one of the biggest fanbases in all of music, because they are so involved with their fans. Not only that, but depending on what figures you are looking at, they're the best selling band/musicians since the turn of the millenium. A Thousand Suns is currently the #1 selling album in America, and in the top 5-10 of pretty much every country that matters, check it. They might not be killing rock and hit radio the way they used to, but they're also not making that kind of music either. They're turning into their own unique, bargain bin style U2.

Already are. Limp Bizkit is very much a thing of the past, they've already released a Greatest Hits album and were on hiatus for over four years, just because they are still "together" doesn't mean they are still relevant. I think that's the key difference. Limp Bizkit was a bunch of rockstars livin' the life and making stupid music that people embraced, and that fades out so quick, whereas Linkin Park, whether they are good at it or not, live their life trying to be artists and musicians.

Sales is not a direct reflection on the level of talent, not in our day and age. When you have enormous recording industries selecting bands or often times creating them out of nothing and using the MTVs of the world and a singles culture to promote sales, big bucks aren't hard to come by as long as the people are at least talented enough to not embarrass themselves.

It's the same across art forms. Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series is a smash best seller, yet everyone and dey mamma know they're absolute trash and that's probably a compliment. At least, anyone who knows anything about literature knows that––the tweener fangirls don't, but they're not in it for the art anyway. In film the examples are too numerous to bother with––terrible films make hundreds of millions of dollars all the time, but none of that is a commentary on the quality of the product. It can be, but one doesn't always (or even usually) follow the other.

Fixed it for ya. One of the main reason Limp Bizket faded was because of their guitarist decided to leave the band when they started getting worldwide fame to start his own stuff and fans and critics basically turned on Limp Bizket. To say that Limp Bizket are not real artists/musicians is absurb and ridiculous.

If Wes Borland hadn't left the band in 01' and stayed in the bad till this day, Limp Bizket would be popular today if not more popular than they were back in 98'-01' era.

i'm not some music expert or snob but form my perspective i think the following

- LP is the musical alternative rock/hard rock whatever of britinay spears or whomever

THEY seem like they were created (image wise) in the bowels of the record companies own version of HOT TOPIC hell

I guess thier whole image seemed fake, contrived and full of sh#t......

- they are pretty cheesy and they spend a lot of time saying nothing in ways that have been already said a million time

- i was not trying to compare musically to bimp bizcuit but rather saying both seem extremely dated both musically and culturally

- if LP has the #1 i dont know anyone who has bought it or is talking about.. nor have i heard one of their songs on the radio

-i'm not some LP hater.. i admire guys who strive to get to the top.....

but like someone once said 'the musically they constantly play it says nothing to me about my life' i guess they just do it for me....
