New ST Coach Mike Ekeler

Will Compton was the one who basically brought him here. Matt hasn't exactly made the best hires. I think this is a valid assessment.
Regardless of the circumstances, Rhule ultimately is the one who hired him just like he is the one who would face the blame if he failed. As to your comment about not making the best hires, we can all have our opinions but at the end of the day, our opinions don't mean a whole lot. His teams going forward will be the deciding factors on his ability to lead the team. The "turn around" has been much slower than any of us wanted but the team has improved statistically in the win/loss column. If that trend continues, he will be our coach for a very long time. If not, we will be moving on- much more simple than so many on here make it out to be.

Well ChatGPT say Ekeker has a higher upside. Looking at his NU career it was pretty solid. AA in Lavonte, put several other guys in the NFL, Big 12 accolades etc. The plus for Dvoracek is stability…. People complaining about LB play you have to ask, bad recruits, coaching, scheme, DL play etc…. But that all goes back to correct recruiting (multiple guys chosen in portal), development, etc…. Ekeler did pretty good on ST’s with the guys we had…. He did a great job at NU 2008-2010. Folks questioning some of Rhule’s hires…. Maybe Dvoracek needs help. Or let go. Thro He coached Cody Glenn to go from RB to LB and get drafted in the 5th round.

All that to say, you want to win, you do it with coaches like him.

I am hoping Rhule has learned his lesson and is hiring the best fit/available in all of his hires. It seems like he wants to make this his last coaching stop, and his family wants to stay here. If Eckler leaves, then he needs to find more high-energy guys.

Being close to his elderly parents was supposedly a big reason why he wanted to come back to Nebraska. Since some of you like to read so much into everything, why don't you start speculating about the reasons he doesn't want to be around them anymore?

What does that tell you when you offer someone top dollar and they still do not want to stay? To me, I interpret that as Ekeler does not believe in Rhule’s leadership.
You guys, set aside your crack pipe theories for one moment.

Coach Ekeler - although good at his craft for a year or two - is a used car salesman and a vagabond. He uses high-energy tactics for leverage similar to the WWE. And he strikes when it's hot (I.E., does a good job for himself). USC would be his 10th stop since 2012 (14 years).

Wish him well. Would love for him to stick around, but that's not his MO/Tactics that keeps him in the business - and it is probably why he keeps moving from place to place instead of sticking around. Which gives him leverage. In a year or two he will be at another place.

It has nothing to do with Nebraska, but it has everything to do with his own "brand". Saw it coming the moment he was hired.

I heard it has less to do with why he doesn’t want to be around them as it does with the early bird specials at the local Bonanza and their preferred bedtime doesn’t line up with his coaching responsibilities. They do get together when they can but not as frequently as he imagined when accepting the position. With direct flights from Orange County or LAX to Lincoln, he can still see them about as frequent as he does now.

What were you hearing?
