New tradition

You can't have a new tradition. That's a Colorado concept.

The reason why I bring this up is that we have started what the NU administration has called new traditions. One of them began Saturday at the spring game.

You can't have new traditions. You start doing something and, a number of years later, assuming that you have kept that act up in the same fashion, someone says "oh, that tradition dates back to....whenever.

Colorado used to do the new tradition crud all the time back in the late 1980s. One of their new traditions was the Big Red rivalry. They had others, too many to mention actually. And it was so lame because none of those were backed by history, and, were therefor not traditions. The practice of every player touching the lucky horse shoe when leaving the locker room, or the blackshirts, now, those are traditions based on history.

Like the year Neuhisel brought the CU down to the field thru the students section, that was supposed to be some big new tradition, and funny how he did it just a few days after claiming he was trying to calm down the nu cu week. Places like Colorado have to start new traditions cuz they have no tradition. Colorado? they really only have 1 win they have to claim fame from.

don't be so hard on CU, isn't losing a tradition?

So I hear ya, kinda, but Merriam-Webster says a tradition is:

2 : the handing down of information, beliefs, and customs by word of mouth or by example from one generation to another without written instruction

I mean...they gotta start somewhere. But I'm sure we can all agree that sCUm lacks any real tradition.

i get what he is saying with 'new traditions' and there is something disingenuous or insincere when a tradition is manufactured, but they do have to start somewhere. traditions come from history, but they start with dedication. i don't like the idea of new traditions, but i don't mind doing something differently with the hope of it becoming a tradition.

Be nice to the puffs. They do have one traditon at least. I don't know any other university that gets more people packed into their football stadium on 4-20 than they do for all their home football games combined.

Ummm... anyone else think 'New Tradition' is an oxymoron? :dunno

On the other hand 'New Edition' made some good music.

i'll get ragged on for this, but i still maintain i wish that the nebraska players would go sing the fight song and alma mater with the students and band after wins. i liked that one.
