New Vehicle

Have any of you, recently, gone out to buy a new vehicle?

This week my wife and I went out to look at a Ford Edge and a Chevy Arcadia. In speaking to a number of dealers we came to the conclusion they aren't at all interested in moving inventory as the amount they gave us for a trade in was almost as insulting as how much they wouldn't come down on the price of their vehicles.

We don't need a new vehicle but wanted to see how aggressive the dealerships are. We'll keep her, paid in full, vehicle for a while.

It's amazing in that the dealerships say they need to move inventory but then it comes to putting their money where their mouth is.....it's a whole different story.

Can't sell anything because if you do, it makes you look like you don't need the bailout. Gotta maintain the illusion of financial trouble.

America = :facepalm:

I think if you weren't trading in they may be a little more aggressive IMO. The problem to them is, they are taking on another vehicle that most likely they aren't going to be able to sell. Then they are going to have to turn around and sell it at an auction for, most likely, a loss or break even. If you went out and just went to purchase the vehicle yourself, I bet you could get a deal, then sell your wife's car privately and pocket that cash.

Once I heard their insult of a trade in amount I took it off the table and tried to get a great price on both vehicles without the trade in. It was a total of waste of time on our part. Seriously, the salesperson and his manager both told me how important it is to them that they move inventory - but when it came to making us a great offer, they dried up.

This weekend we'll go to Woodhouse and see what they wil do.

Haven't heard about any help out there for my small business. Then again I'm making a little bit here and there. All I hear is "PAY YOUR TAXES ON TIME AND IN FULL OR WE'LL SCREW YOUM OVER BIG TIME."

This country rides on the backs of a lot of us who get up andgo to work every day and don't want any thing more than to lead our lives, watch our sports and knock back a cold one now and again.

I'm sorry.....but I missed your point.

The main thing that really pissed us off is they were so concerned with HOW we were going to pay for the vehicle. I told them let's settle on a price first then we can talk about adding "Employee Discounts and /or 60 No Interest, or paying cash" after we have established the price of the vehicle. They just wouldn't let the method of payment go.

Out of curiosity, what do you drive now?

My wife drives a 2003 Durango

I have a 1995 F-150 Lighting which I only drive if there is not a cloud for MILES. My main vehicle is a 2008 F-150 XLT 4x4. My current truck is the first brand new truck I have ever purchased. I traded in my old 2000 Chevy Silverado for my 08 F-150.

What dealership did you go to? H&H Chevy? I dealt with them a few years ago and they were tightwads. Lots of talk, but no action when it comes to the price on the proposed sales agreement, especially if you were trading in a vehicle. They should be more than willing to cut a deal in these times. Rusty Eck Ford advertises quite a bit on deals available, but who knows what it boils down to. Good luck in your quest.

My son went out shopping for a new truck and I went along for the "fun" of it. Yup, no deals and the dealers all acted like they were doing us a favor just by letting us buy one of their vehicles.

No sale.

With the lack of customer satisfaction we received this week, we may never buy another new vehicle. If Woodhouse and Eck won't deal then it is a collusion thing. We'll find out this Saturday.

After lookng at vehicles for my wife, we have come to conclusion that she will keep her Durango until the dealerships get serious about not going out of business. Eck gave us an ok deal and Woodhouse was the best; but not good enough. Since then, Woodhouse has called three times with better prices but they are not quite there yet. They are the only dealership that is still trying to earn our business and are about $1,800 from us buying the Edge.

Guess what I meant was that don't expect much of the bailout to trickle down to any of us. The Banks screwed up (and so did we) when they started to hand out variable rate mortgages. Then they allowed second mortgages on the equity and we used the money to put a down payment on a car. Then all of a sudden the VRM's went up a couple of points and people couldn't make their new payments. Now we are in the mess that we are in.
