SI: Nebraska #1 School at not producing NFL players

1. Nebraska: The Huskers' old-fashioned, home-bred system produced championship-caliber college players, but they didn't exactly translate into sought-after NFL prospects. Lately, they haven't had much of either, having now gone seven years since their last first-round draft picks, Grant Wistrom and Jason Peter (star RB Ahman Green was a third-rounder that same year). New coach Bill Callahan's NFL background and pro-style offense should be more beneficial in that department, but after producing the school's first losing season in 40 years, it remains to be seen whether he'll last long enough to see the results.

I didn't realize it's been 7 years since we had a 1st round draft pick. That sucks.

 
1st Rounders are like 5-star recruits - hype is great, but it doesn't amount to crap if they don't last more than 2 years in the league or are complete busts.

By the same token, the number of NFL players, stars and journeymen alike, from 1AA and II schools is pretty impressive.

Also, that article is a bit misleading by the title - ND, for example, is #2 behind UNL on the list, but has the 2nd most number of players on active NFL rosters (and in one weekend of the NFL playoffs last year, 3 Domers scored touchdowns so there were quite a few starters on some good teams).

I think UNL has 30 players, ND 39 and FSU has like 41 or so. By way of comparison, USC (#2 on their list) has fewer than 15 players in the NFL.

This is just another SI bash UNL, bash ND article. Ho. Hum.

How the hell doesn't Penn St. take the cake in this poll. I haven't seen so many big busts since I went to Shakers in Waverly.

Josh Bullocks was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the second round

Overall: Bullocks redshirted in 2001 and he started five games while providing contributing in eight others as a redshirt freshman in 2002. He started all 13 games of the 2003 season, recording 49 tackles, seven passes broken up and 10 interceptions. Bullocks started 11 games in 2004 and he finished the season with 63 tackles, seven passes broken up and two interceptions. Bullocks is coming off a somewhat disappointing season as a senior in 2004. He is better dropping into coverage than he is filling against the run. However, Bullocks shows excellent instincts in coverage, above average range, excellent ball skills and enough size to improve his ability to support the run. Bullocks is a classic FS prospect that will fit best as a centerfielder-type in a zone scheme. He was too inconsistent and isn't a complete enough player to gamble on in the first two rounds but he has .

 
Go figure, we have our first losing season and don't go to a bowl game in like forever, yet we have the most players drafted from Nebraska in the first 3 rounds in the past six years!
