NFL and the Huskers

IMHO four wore the jersey, only one was a Husker. If the three had shown the drive loyalty to make the team a team we would not have had our worst year.

 
Out of the first 19 defensive players drafted, 3 were from NU. That's very impressive. A couple ways to look at this. Why didn't they perform well last year and consequently how well can we play in the upcoming year losing three studes?

 
No loss at all. Except for Ruud. He gave 100% every play. The other three truly were more problems than they were worth last year. I think we will see improved DB play this year. The cancer has been removed.

 
Four wore the jersies, but only one was a Husker? I sure as hell hope you were not calling Ruud the one and only Husker of the four. I mean come on, the guy shaves what 1.5 tenths from his 40 in the combine. And, then he says he was able to do it by not drinking so much beer? Is this the kind of dedication you are talking about?

We all said Bohl was a terrible D cordinator. Then we all said Pelini got these guys to play above their level. Now, we're saying these guys wouldn't play for Cosgrove? Maybe, just maybe we had the talent all along but only Pelini was able to get these guys to play up to their talent level.

A Husker DB posted one of the fastest if not the fastest 40 at the combine. Sure, we didn't have any talent. Ruud goes from a 4.7 40 to a 4.55. While 4.7 isn't impressive at all, a 4.55 is very respectable. Sure not talent. Bullocks, yeah another non talent. Give me a break!

 
No comment on talent, comment on principles. Ruud had them the other three did not. I just do not buy the crap of not liking the coaches so I won't play. Football at the Nebraska level should never be about liking or not. If you come to this program there should never be a question of wanting to play or not. Maturity, loyalty and dedication should not have to be considered by the coaching staff. If you signed a letter to play, you do so to the best of your ability no matter who coaches you. It is a matter of principle period. Ruud had the character to play through the changes, the others did not. In my mind he will be the only that makes it. The others will be gone quickly.

 
ET FOOTBALL: East Texas roots deep for Williams

BECKVILLE – DeMorrio Williams wants to make a positive impact on the lives of the children in his hometown, and his efforts began here at R.C Beauchamp Stadium on Saturday.

Williams, a former Beckville athletic standout and a professional football player with the Atlanta Falcons, shared his football experience with some future Bearcats and other area youngsters in the inaugural "51 in Action" camp.

Williams wears No. 51 for the Falcons – the team that picked him in the fourth round (101st overall) in the 2003 NFL draft.

 
Len Pasquerelli in his column this week on ESPN.com said that Tennessee coaches are impressed by Kyle's workouts. Apparently his past knee problems aren't hampering him at all. According to Pasquerelli, "The Titans are receiving the kind of leadership and high motor they anticipated when the signed Vanden Bosch." They signed him to the NFL minimum contract.

So far in mini camps he's been practicing at times with the first team D line. He's actually also the oldest member of the DL at 26 because of the Titans salary cap purge last year. Even with his knee problems in Arizona, he's got more starts than every other Titans DE.

It looks like Kyle's well on his way to winning a job in Tennesee. Hopefully now that he's out of Arizona, where nothing goes right for anybody, he'll be able to stay healthy and show some of that ability he showed at Nebraska.

I always root for every former Husker in the NFL regardless of team, so I thought I'd pass along this when I read it in Pasqurelli's column this week.
