This was a very very bad loss.

So...to argue with the op

It may be a valid argument, but out of curiosity do you consider Bo and TO in the same league at all? I'm not seeing it.

Osborne's legacy was cemented by the last 5 years of his 25 years as head coach. During Osborne's tenure, such things happened as being blown out by Oklahoma, didn't win the conference (which was comprised of less than 12 teams) and lost 7 straight bowl games. Yet, Osborne was very consistent in his approach. That's how I think most coaches are similar.

Look at who we played in those 7 straight bowl games and what was at stake. Don't compare the two. Not even f'ing close. If Osborne's teams dropped another game in their season as Bo's did, we probably would have wound up in bowl games that were more winnable.

1987 - Lost by 3 to final ranking #3 Florida State

1988 - Lost 23-3 to final ranking #2 Miami

1989 - Lost 41-17 to final ranking #5 Florida State

1990 - Lost 45-21 to UPI national champs Georgia Tech

1991 - Lost 22-0 to AP national champion Miami

1992 - Lost 27-13 to final ranking #3 Florida State

1993 - Lost 18-16 to national champs Florida State (by the grace of the officials)

Notice the level of competition we were losing to? Osborne's legacy was more than the last 5 years. His teams always played hard, disciplined football.

I don't recall the turnovers, penalties, confusion from back then.

Oklahoma was competing for national titles. We're losing consistently to the big boys while getting embarrassed by a team or two each season that we shouldn't lose to. It's time to end comparisons about the old days and now. It's a different college world. The only way we'll actually be winning conference titles is to be a fundamentally sound team. This staff has proven that over 6 years we can't field such a team. You can lump Nebraska in with the Michigan States and Arizonas...close but no cigar.

Great post and pardon my ignorance but hasn't Nebraska historically been known to fumble a bunch. For whatever reason it sticks in my head that we've always been prone to putting it on the ground. Maybe that was post Osborne era. I just seem to remember as a little kid that some of those late 90's teams led the nation in fumbles.

Yeah, great loss. What the hell has happened to our program? It's easy to take because you all are used to it and accept mediocrity.

It's a team game and the team gave up 41 points. That's horrible! Now Nebraska is not even going to be in the "Others receiving votes" category. This is a poorly coached team that is not conditioned well and is sorely lacking in depth and talent.

Today's performance was unacceptable. Quit making excuses and look at the big picture. This program is not in good hands.

Losses should sting and they should hurt. They should stay with you throughout the week. Indifference, apathy and back-patting are not traits of a winning football program. I can't believe the drivel I am reading. Nebraska football stands for greatness. A lucky pass over Northwestern and a win eeked out against a horrid Michigan team is not greatness. Nebraska should be dominating this conference and in the top 10-15 every year. I am disgusted at the fans who continue to accept this crap and at the administration who continue to support it. Awful!

True... the program has been struggling for a decade or so now. But beating a dead horse is not that valuable either. Again... a few good things were out there... Burch, AA, Cross, SJB, RG, among others. Lets see some of the positives too. The defense, overall, played pretty well... now MSU is not good offensively... but still, NU'd D was not bad at all.

And again... enjoy NU football.. it is for entertainment purposes and does not define who we are. Even if NU is not that good, there are still things to be pleased about.

6 years of this crap is enough....wait, more like 14 years. Changes are needed.

This type of season would never have been embraced 10 or even 5 years ago. Moral victories are for losers.

The simple fact that this is a thread title speaks volumes. And not one word is good. 14 years without a conference title, and not even a chance to play for it this year. Pathetic schedule and this is the result? 1 win vs teams with a wining record and double digit losses to the 3 teams with winning records. Indefensible.

Not really dude. Our D was lights out that year and covered our offense's a$$ on many occassions. One of the all-time best D's we've ever had.

That is because we still had McBride with his/Tom's recruits. Not to mention we were the premire progam at the time too.

I thought the team showed a lot of heart Saturday. The offense cost us this game, but they also kept us in it. The defense did what they are supposed to do, even though they wore down. We should have expected growing pains, with all the freshmen at key spots. The turnovers were all by freshmen/redshirt freshmen. As stated in earlier posts. Without so many TO's we win. Mich St's D didn't seem to be to big a problem for our offense. Cut down on the giveaways, and we win out from here. We here this every year lately, but wait till next year. I for one think this program has turned the corner. GBR!!!
