NU Cancelling Oklahoma Game?

As in they want full houses for the games and don't want to have the big matchup played at 20-50% capacity? I'm in favor of playing the game regardless but I have to wonder why this now. I don't think we'd be looking to postpone out of fear of a loss... I believe Frost and Moos want us on the big stage more, not less.

Oklahoma has already said they expect a full house this fall, especially with vaccines being fully rolled out by then. I am planning on attending in Norman with family who are OU fans.

To be fair, it worked for most of Nebraska's forty year run of excellence, too.

Alabama and other SEC teams always have an embarrassing creampuff or two on their non-cons every year, and generally get a week of grief for it. 

This is the 50th Anniversary of the Game of the Century. It could only happen by coordinating non-con schedules for the benefit of the fans and the programs. Once you've agreed to it, you don't change your mind. You double down on pride and work your a$$ of to represent. 

Or just give up on respect altogether.

Good point though Nebraska's dominance didn't have them skirting the best team in the conference as often as Iowa has avoided the conference's best team. Iowa's played Ohio State only four times since 2007. For a comparison, Nebraska has played them seven times since 2011. 

I agree that we should do everything we can to play as is though.

@runningblind, thank you, I didn't know if OU was expecting full capacity or not. Hopefully they do and we don't back out.

As someone just pointed out, there is no glory or even progress in going 4-8 vs. 3-9 if you swap Oklahoma for Bethune-Cookman, and it this case it might be the opposite. Know how some folks are paranoid about the national media having it in for Nebraska? They don't, really. But there would be no other way to report this. We ran away from celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Game of the Century.

Easy fix, though. If we just want to ensure this heralded game is celebrated in a full stadium, work to push it back later in the season or till next year. But do it transparently. Anything less and Nebraska takes a huge and deserved hit. 

And what if we gave Oklahoma a good fight in a close loss, like we did a much better Ohio State team on the road in Frost's first year? What if....we won? A team that's scared of its own shadow will never know.

Your job isn't on the line - Frost and Moos's are....wins and losses matter. Frost has 12 games within one possession that he has lost at Nebraska and you flame him for still losing. Being tough doesn't matter. Iowa and Wisconsin have gotten an extra 1-2 wins a year for scheduling easy teams.

The big selling point of Nebraska's culture is tradition, support, and pride to play in the big games. Pulling out of a game against Oklahoma is the antithesis of everything Nebraska football has proclaimed to be. It would be such a slap in the face of the people that have supported Nebraska to trade all of that for an 85% chance of winning a home game that won't be remembered in two years.

The athletic department needs to have an answer very soon to prevent this rightful embarrassment escalating further.

You can't have it both ways.  It was Frost's choice to burn the thing to the ground and alienate current players at that time.  Losing was going to happen to start with when you make that choice.  Now that we're 4 years in and he's scrambling it's his own bed he is laying in. Trying to escape big games that you will probably lose is not any way to build culture and a winning program, quite the opposite actually.

What would you be saying if Iowa was backing out of a big game?  Nothing because they wouldn't.

Avoiding tough teams is not a way to reverse the close loss trend.  Improved game management, actually paying attention to special teams, and not getting constantly out maneuvered in the second half would be a good start there.

 
Old dominion really get my juices flowing and Im sure the players feel the same way! No way we come out flat and play down to an inferior teams level! Oh wait...

He burned what to the ground? We just came off of losing to Iowa 56-14. Gave up 56 to Penn St the week before that. Gave up 54 to Minnesota the week prior to that....
