NU Head Coaches - their first four years

Sorry man, but you sound a little fair weather to me. I don't think our fan base would hurt too much if you just stopped watching.
thanks
Sorry if you thought that was to harsh. Honestly. No one like's to lose. But a true fan sticks no matter what. Bo will get us there. You just have to have faith in the process and the team.
Not harsh, just uninformed on your part.

I'm glad you're appointed arbiter of what a "true fan" is.
I made that appointment in June 2007. As my vasal I have possess a divine dominion over you and I demand that you respect his a-thor-a-tie.

I noticed the fapsalone change...HILARIOUS.

By the way, the storyline for the SEC to win the national championship for a seventh year in a row so we can see another damn commercial about it: LSU--Unfinished Business.

Brace for it.

How is it that Solich inherited the sportscar but TO didn't? I just don't get this logic. I've said it time and time again: if TO would have been hired in today's day and age college football instead of the 70's, he would have been fired by now.
Heh, very good point. TO took over a program that won NCs twice in the last three years.

Add to that Solich had to "totally" rebuild the offense his 1st year (S. Frost, A. Green, "5" pancakers.....all gone. G. Wistrom & J. Peter too). 100% agree the haters would get rid of TO in an eyelash. No NC's? No conference championships? FIRE HIM!

It's the Nebraska way.

Pedey lives on with the haters. They're two peas in a pod.
How? Have we fired Pelini? No. He'll be here at least 2 more years. Your only data point is Solich and you refuse to even entertain the idea that he was fired for reasons other than his football record.
What??? So I'm not willing to entertain an idea that I don't even know what it is? :WTH

So pray tell, what did he get fired for? I suppose just another typical internet rumor (without one tiny shred of proof)? Well?
I already went through this with you about 2 months ago. I work with a guy who is childhood friends with Pedey. They've remained friends to this day and their families are friends. They even hung out a lot when my associate worked in Cynthiana, KY and Pedey was out there(Kentucky football I think??). Pedey told him that Solich had done some things that gave him no choice other than to fire him. Specifically, he was having an affair with a lady in the AD, also got a UNL student pregnant(who later transferred to Iowa State) and also was having an affair with a lady in his neighborhood. Pedey knew of this for several weeks and after the KSU game saw that he could fire Solich for his performance instead of dragging his name through the mud. Pedey admitted the coaching search afterward was a mess and regretted it. As we can see now Pedey is in fact a huge douche and seems to keep making the same mistakes. Take it for what it's worth, but this is a guy who loves Nebraska Football is a very-well paid Scientist for the company I work for and has no motives to make this stuff up from what I can tell. He likes Steve but is disappointed with how he handled everything.

I had never heard this story before and assumed Pedey was just a moron, but I've talked to several people who knew of this stuff and acted like it was old news. With me being out of the state since 2004 I just assumed it must have been common knowledge. Not trying to stir sh#t up as I personally thought Solich deserved one more year and when Callahan got hired I was pretty pissed, but this is just what I have been told.

Hmmmm......very well, I stand humbly corrected. I can tell you're shooting straight and I fully appreciate that. I don't know if that's true or not but it sounds like a reasonable scenario to me.

Geesh, if true (and it very well could be), way to go Frank you dumb-a$$. You can't run around banging these hammers when you're in such a high profile/big money position. Duh! Bill Clinton ring a bell? Great job nimrod, you ruined your career, your family and damn near sunk NU cfb. All for the hot stuff. Oh boy.....

Well, Pedey screwed up in many. many other ways but on reflection I can see how easily that could happen to a guy. A Nebraska native running the whole NU cfb show.....it would be almost impossible to reign in the ego. Scary to think about. Could happen to anybody.

I vaguely remember you mentioning this before but my 10 second memory span failed me again. I sincerely apologize and some day I'll buy ya an ice cold one. Thanks for your patience.

GBR!!

Not a problem. Like I said this is just coming from a guy I know, but he does have a unique perspective that most of us don't, and if you know the guy he is not the type to make crap up for no reason. Previous to that conversation I thought we just fired Franky for the way he lost those games in 2003 coupled with the previous year, but this story certainly seems plausible. He also told me one of the women had an abortion, but I don't remember which one it was.... Seems like it was the neighbor but I could be wrong. I guess some guys just don't like to wear condoms. Not that I blame him...

Yeah, I always thought he was fired for a couple of blowout losses. Sure, that's not good but "firing" him for going 10 - 3 pissed me off to no end and still does to this day. Making it 10,000 times worse was bringing in the NFL reject HC. I'm wrong about a lot of things but even I knew that would end badly.

Yeah, I know what you mean about your friend. In this wacked out world a guy usually meets a handful or less of folks who stand tall and talk straight. A guy can tell. I believe you.

Only now I know that very well may not have been the "real" reason Frank was canned. Makes me want to slap Frank hard upside his head. But otoh, he's not the only guy around that's screwed up his life due to hot women. It happens to the best of us & it ain't easy to walk away from the steaming ones.

Oh, what a crazy ride....haha.

Thanks beanman.

The story going around while it was going on, is that it was a cheer leader and another woman, plus there was some drinking issues supposedly. Frank was a Nebraska guy and was Pedy. I think both did the best they could at the time. Pedy is an a$$ for sure. Frank a pretty good guy, I have talked with him several times. Truly liked the guy. Was sorry to see Frank have to go, but water under the bridge now. I hope sometime he is invited back and we so something special for him. He lived for Nebraska, and the fairer side.

This is my problem with the "off the field issues" theory on Frank's firing. The story seems to change from person to person, like a game of Telephone. By the time it gets to me it's different, and when it gets to you it's even more different.

I've heard many, many theories. It seems clear there was something going on outside the scope of football, but what exactly is anyone's guess. Speaking strictly of football, Frank had let some things slip that didn't need to slip, and that certainly didn't help his cause. Add to that Pederson having a rather large ego and a desire to put his stamp on the program, and you have..... well, what we got in 2003.

Not to defend Steve Pederson, but I think if you asked around at the time, you would have found a lot of support for him among our other coaches. He was, from what I can gather, a reasonably well-liked AD. He made a lot of improvements for a lot of our programs, and a lot of the coaches had reason to be thankful to him. His cardinal sin, though, was mucking about with the football program. And that you simply cannot do.

Hey everyone!!! Listen up!!! I know how we can save the Husker from the horror that they are becoming. Dr. Osborne, I'm talking to you. Pay attention!

Start writing the contracts.

Frank Beamer (special teams coordinator)

Mike Gundy (QB coach)

Gary Patterson (Defensive Coordinator)

Bo Pelini (Head Coach - he will go undefeated forever with this staff)

Chris Peterson (Offensive Coordinator)

Nick Saban (Recruiting Coordinator/ Defensive Quality Control)

Think we can have them for Spring Ball?

Those are the only D1a coaches who've won 9 games or more each of the last 4 seasons.
DA, I'm not mocking your post at all. I just used it because you already had that great list assembled.

Actually he wanted to make changes to the staff when he found out he was going to be HC and TO advised him against it. Being loyal to TO and his judgement he held off until he did.

I could tell a couple of stories about Frank, Barry and a Christmas party at dollar Bill's house. That was a group of good old boys that like to socialize. But for the most part it wasn't any different than a lot of other coaches past and present or any number of business people in Lincoln at the time.

Not to get into all the Frank stuff, but Steve was supported very well when he came here and even had TO's support. The thing is he came in with the intention of firing Frank and making a change. Heart was in the right place, but screwed it up big.

I would guess there is a spot for Frank at UNL if he wants it. Besides. . . he'd like to be back so he can see all of his 20 teenage kids on a regular basis. :sarcasm

The affair stuff is old news. However I didn't know it was or could be a major factor in firing him.
