NU Notes, 3/24:

NEWCOMERS' IMPACT: Callahan said he saw a bit of good in each of the mid-year junior college transfers, who are practicing with the Huskers this spring. Most notable is quarterback Zac Taylor, but Callahan seemed encouraged by early glimpses of four defensive players, too. "Dontrell Moore, I thought he had a nice day, and Steve Octavien showed some real naturalness at the position," Callahan said, referring to the two linebackers. "And (linemen) Barry Cryer and Ola Dagunduro showed a real naturalness inside. That was really pleasing."
INJURY UPDATE: As expected, tight end Matt Herian sat out practice. He's still recovering from the broken leg and broken wrist he suffered in October. Lydon Murtha (hamstring) also didn't practice, instead jogging along the sidelines. The offensive lineman looked considerably bigger than last season, when he redshirted. Also, cornerback Donald DeFrand suffered a foot sprain, while defensive end Wali Muhammad missed practice while healing his GPA. "He studied," Callahan said, explaining Muhammad's absence. "We put an emphasis on Wali's studying. We just want to make sure that he gets his grades."
NOT GOING ANYWHERE FOR A WHILE?: Among those attending Wednesday's practice was Harrison Beck, the Florida high school recruit who will join the Huskers this fall. No, the quarterback wasn't tossing a ball around. He was snacking on what looked like a Snickers bar while sitting in the Memorial Stadium stands. Yep. The Beck watch is on.

SOme interesting notes. Why in the world would Beck make a trip all the way up here for a practice?? Folks must be rich.

I hope Murtha can get healed, I think he's got a great deal of potential.

I love the fact that Harrison is spending his spring break here in nebraska at practice, instead of lounging o the beach checking out chicks. Tha t says a lot about his commitment and desire. I love that. He wants to play. The meeting he is sitting in on will only help familiarize him to the way things work here and het him ready to step in this fall. Good job Harrison. You are the man.

Side note from one of the articles worth noting:

"Coach Gilmore blended in very well," said Callahan. "He took the field very confident and knew what to expect. He knows the offense which is a great advantage in that respect that he has knowledge of the system.

Wali isn't practicing right now...will he eventually? or is he done for the entire spring??

Either way this pisses me off, with depth being a problem you'd think Wali would have his grades in order and ready to role. I guess that's why he was in a juco... :steam :steam :steam :steam :steam

I'm looking forward to see what Gilmore brings to the table
????

From what I have heard, his WRs have been dropping quite a few balls. :WTH

I'm sure it his fault. What have they had like TWO freakin practices together.

I never said it was his fault.

But now that you mention it, doesnt pretty much everyone give john blake credit for winning a Super Bowl, even though the Cowboys won another SB the year prior to him getting there, and he just rode on the gravy train???

Shouldnt "Happy" gilmore receive the same credit?
