NU takes first step in healing

I don't hate "callahan" players. Just hate how they were treated and coached. I'm sure the players are none to proud about how things turned out either. If they had their way, there's no doubt in my mind they would like to re-do the 2007 season.

With time this so called "division" will disappear. But like all things, it'll take time.

It's sad that these (Callahan's and Cosgrove's) players are expected to suddenly turn on their Coaches...The same guys they went to battle for for 4-5 seasons just because we all need someone to blame.

It's a shame the last coaching staff or maybe just Pederson and Cally pushed the old players away, but they probably won't be back for a game or a golf tournament any time soon..Don't take it out on the players that are still willing to become fans just because they didn't excede their abilities like their predecessors did.

I read the article a couple of times. I didn't see any bad mouthing by former players, just stating the obvious. "They/we don't know these guys". That my friends rests with the coaching staff. They (BC) had an us versus them mentality. It's sad, but true, it will take time to heal. But, to be quite honest, I have seen this before. I played in the early 90's before the National Championship runs, and I tell you what, I often heard it said from former players that there was a difference in attitude between the championship teams and the rest of the teams. although we had 9 and 10 win seasons, the championship teams were a little different (arrogant). Maybe that's why they won the way the did, who knows.

I am not here to beat a dead horse dead horse, but it's just unbelievably sad to see our storied program go to crap like it did. Rift, damn right there's a rift. This impacted the Nebraska way of life. It will take a little time to get back on track. Time and winning will heal any rifts. But Osborne is smart enough to recognize these internal problems. He has already put some programs in place to help with the healing (i.e. former players being able to get season tickets without donations). I asked someone (ticket office) during the Callahan era what will it take for a former letterman to get tickets, this was after I orchestrated a fund raiser, and they said 10K.

The players can only play to the level they were coached and we all agree they werent coached very well, but I applaud the guys from last year showing up cheering their former teammates. Imagine how alot of the seniors from last year feel knowing that they arent getting second chances to redeem themselves that all the other guys are getting.

We cant hold last year over their heads, we need to make sure the door is open and we let them back in and enjoy the future.

Valid points, but did he really think that he would not draw a newspaper reporter asking him questions? I mean he was only the subject of a media storm less than a year ago and he played for the most popular team in the state. Like or not, he's a public figure subject to articles if he is in or around Memorial Stadium after game day.

Furthermore, the article (admittedly, a little unneeded) was simply drawing comparisons to what is going on vs. what happened; a subject which can prop up numerous message boards on the same topic. The article may have been a touch uneccesary, but it is a valid subject for the biggest newspaper in the state to try and cover.
