NU to the Big 10?

Army was in Conference- USA until a year or two ago, but was so terrible at everything that they were kindly asked to leave.

A Nebraska transition to Independent status, at least from the football standpoint, would make sense if they could begin to legitamtiely bid for placement in BCS bowl games year in and year out where the payout is some 3-5 times as much as even the best non-BCS bowl games.

As for Texas joining the SEC, we have a lot of people from Texas or who are Texas fans here at UGA, but we don't want nor need that longhorn B.S. in our almighty conference. I think the Huskers have a much better chance of moving over to the Big 10 then Texas does of moving to the SEC, but previous posters are right in the fact that it would be tough to join that conference from the academic standpoint.

Isn't ND independent in football and conference affiliated in other sports like basketball? I guess we could try to do that. Just a thought.

Key is do we produce more $ for the conference than we receive?

Yes, and no. We probably bring in more money to the table than many of the other schools. However, without the conference, i don't think we get the TV contract and thus losse our share of this money.

While we would probably stand a better chance on our own than ISU or KSU would, we all benefit greatly by banding together for the sake of network money than to try it on our own.

How about this for a confrence.

1. Nebraska

2. Kansas

3. Kansas State

4. Colorado

5. Colorado State

6. Oklahoma

7. Oklahoma State

8. Iowa State

9. Missouri

Obviously it is the original Big 8 with the addition of Colorado St. Play each team in the confrence plus 4 non-confrence games. have the two teams with the best confrence records in a CCG

Or pull a team from Little 11 in to make a 10 team confrence.

Does the B12 have a television contract with any network? Or is it just tied to the NCAA?

ND has NBC, plus the resentment of most other fans, but not sure about individual conferences.

this would be worse than it is now. sorry, i see no merit in such a group.

If I'm not mistaken, the SEC has an individual contract with CBS.

I have a question for the group...is this wishful thinking or is there actually LEGITIMATE talk of the Big XII breaking up? If this is just hypotheticals...man I cant wait for the season to start.

I thought we had a deal with Fox Sports. They couldn't cover their allotment or something, so ended up farming out many of the games to TBS in the past.

Thus when TBS signed the rights to the MLB playoffs, Fox had to find another contractor. Which they did in ESPN, making a strange partnership.

Long story short, yes. I believe the league has a contract with someone, i'm just not sure who.

There has been talk of CU leaving for the Pac 10. A lot of things make sense for CU to make the move; however, the Pac 10 would probably only do so if they simultaneously add another team to make a 12 team league and switch to a division format with a title game like the SEC and B12 now. Such a move is probably a ways off, it were to ever happen. But it is a real threat.

There is also talk of the big 10 extending to 12 teams too. The 11 teams makes scheduling weird, and the incredibly bad luck of having the better teams miss playing each other in the same year has given the conference a bit of a black eye. Naturally, they would most like ND as the 12th team. But who knows if ND is ever going to want to take it. The question then becomes, do they hold it open or just go ahead and find someone else. Mizzou gets mentioned a lot as another possibility.

There's also an article going around about how the big12 has a tough time of keeping up financially with the other leagues:

i think down the road in 3-5 years, this is a distinct possibility. the Big 12 north draws very little interest and could easily be dissolved.
I know I would be up for some reformations.

What conferences do you think would be up for a change?

It seems like the SEC itself is pretty solid, no room to change. Big 10, Big 12, and the PAC 10?

First and foremost, we need Nebraska to start being Nebraska again -- to be a top-ten caliber team. Then have at least one true North Division rival if that would be KSU or CU. I prefer KSU since it has a stronger fan base than CU.

(All they seem to do in Boulder is to encourage 12-, 13- and 14-year-olds to partake in drugs and sex. Those of you who watch the "O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News knows what I'm talking about. CU is also the home of that wonderful man, Ward Churchill. :sarcasm Ok, I realize that not all Boulder residents share those progressive left wing beliefs, but the town in general has gone insane. This is also the same town that never solved the Ramsey murder case. What a total mess!!!)

Hehe, I used to be a Boulder resident...:-P

To be honest, it was a nice place to live, and the public library was pretty darn awesome, and the scenery was just gorgeous. Football aside, Boulder is just a much prettier place than Lincoln.
