Actually, what does that say for the ACC, should the "projected 5th or 6th best team" in the Big 12 beat the "projected best team" in the ACC?
The Big 12 has taken some hits early, but Okie State may have been a bit overrated, OU lost their Heisman QB, and the teams sitting in the basement (CU, KSU) are not the cream of the league. NU and VT is still a good solid matchup this week, and neither team is facing a "must win". This game will toughen up both teams when its done.

A dominate win over VT will hush the Big 12 nay-sayers for a week or two, but anything short of that and people (especially SEC and ESPN honks) will still bash the B12. Texas will need to run the table to carry the south, and I wouldn't mind seeing NU v KU undefeated going into the Nov 14 matchup to shore up the north. The SEC beating each other up wouldn't suck either...

No beating a ranked team on the road is a big deal. I believe it will vault us into a different level. Something we havent been able to accomplish i a while. We need this. I know we will do good the rest of the season. But for what happened last year, and to boost us up for the rest of the games. A win here is crutial.
Careful not to overplay the magnitude of this game. NU can't control what the rest of the North is doing. CU is Hawkin's problem, not ours.
Certainly a road win over VaTech would be a huge boost to Pelini's progress, but not essential. As someone already pointed out, it seems a little over the top to expect the 4th-6th Big12 team to win on the road against the #1 ACC team.
I think its a game we can win, but we'll need to play awfully good on both sides of the ball. Our youthful LB's concern me a little, but their talented and will be prepared by Bo and the staff. I doubt that anybody predicting NU's record prior to the season chalked up this one as a win, so winning would be a great boost.

Seriously, that's a lot more pressure than we need. I agree with Dave5. Certainly it would benefit Nebraska a lot more. A North team winning the Big XII Championship would probably do a lot more for the North.

The thing about winning the V-tech game is this: looking down the stretch there's not a single opponent you look at as a guaranteed loss anymore once we get past them. Until we hit the Big XII championship game, and even then, upsets happen. Put simply, this is a big game for this season, but I think in the long run Nebraska's upward momentum is inevitable.
hmmm, why is upward movement inevitable? NU didn't beat anyone of consequence last yr and it's overhyped run was against weak teams. beat two nobodies so far, what did you learn, not much. top 3 teams are works in progress, ku has played even worse opponents so they know nothing either. this is the game for nu to judge themselves by, much higher rated and the d at VT is always consistantly good, offense is solid. MU handled the good team and barely got their act together, mark of a young team and coordinators and passed a difficult test. for those who question, 3 MAC teams beat BCS teams last weekend, including a highly regarded MI State team at home and western mi was rated middle of the pack in MAC, of course Toledo destroyed the CU team many of you were so worried about before season.
after this weekend you will know much more about this team. MU plays a FBS team so no news there, while KU plays a so so Duke squad without a established qb, so they won't help them at all. NU is going into the crucible and will be very interesting as to how it performs. You will know if you can run the ball against a top D, know if Lee can be effective and how the D truly is. These are the games that matter. Good luck it will be a fight, again hats off to NU for scheduling the best team of the north preconference schedule. to be the best you have to play the best.

To all those saying this is not that important. Are you the same ones saying we get no respect, ESPN hates us. This is the game of the year period. We have to have this game to establish credibility and win recruiting battles.
If we lose this game, our upward mobility is questionable at best.
