O-line & Secondary

I've finally gotten over the loss and want some real discussion on what to take from the game....
Ok, I do realize that this O-line is night and day difference from last year.  So this isn't meant to  :steam   anyone.  But, to me, that is the one place on offense where we were clearly outmanned (as indicated by our rushing statisitcs).  What do we need to do to see continued improvement in this area so we are competing for an MNC one day?

Next, on the secondary, the one place on defense where we couldn't stop them.  I mean, I don't think we will see a set of wideouts again like that for a long time.  However, if we want to play for an MNC, we have to be able to stop teams like this.  What do we need to see the necessary improvement in the secondary to win an MNC?

Just trying to get some productive - "what did we learn from the game" discussion going.  So please, let's stop with the game plan.  I didn't like it either, but it was what it was.

I do agree that I haven't seen many passes broken up by either Green or Shanle as of yet. Is this a scheme or a talent or a lack of experience thing.

Does Huskers.com keep stats for pass break ups?

No, no, no, no,no. They have offered next to no pass support. They've failed their test so far.

Just wondering when Jarrett was catching all of those passes along the sideline or two yards from the line how is a safety supposed to help there?

 
we have but only one half decent corner, and he is vertically challenged..no one else could start on any other Big 12 team.......we need to recruit like hell to upgrade this part of our D..........

Andre Jones has played all of three games. Nobody here knows if he is going to be good or not Don't judge guys off of what they did against the best WR in college football because they don't play them anymore. Most good corners get butchered their first few games and come back strong. After the first few games last year would you have said that Bowman was any good? I'm guessing probably not. But then he went on to shut down Todd Blythe, the CU receivers, and had by far his best game against a pretty good corp of receivers from Michigan. Don't throw these guys under the bus just yet.

as far as recruiting goes both of our #2 guys are true freshman.

It's not an all or nothing axiom. It is not their responsibility on every play. Yet I believe that they did fail to help on two of the great Jarrett's catches when they should have. I'll have to watch the game again.

 
my comment concerns where we are now......you are correct, some of these guys may develop and get better, but as of now we have zero depth and a bunch of converted guys playing as DB's........even with Bowman, we still would have no depth and only one guy with size and some experience.....couldn't be any thinner at these positions and these guys will continue to get picked on for the rest of the year, so they will either get better or be consistently victimized.....Texas comes to mind as another problem team for our secondary....even Missouri as well

Actually, Texas, Missouri, and Iowa State all have pretty decent passing games. Goal for Mizzou and Ia State will be to dominate their O-Line with our D-Line, force them to be one dimensional and then abuse their QB's.

That will be much more difficult with Texas as they have a very good O-line.
