O-line

why is our line still not very good. I have been happy with the progress that cally has made in most areas(cant do anything about our db getting hurt), but I am surprised the line is as bad as it is. do we have any young o-line developing? will it be better next year? this is a problem I never thought we would have at NU

 
IMO, they have improved tremendously but still have lots to learn. They allowed 38 sacks last year for about a 3 sack per game average. They've only allowed 2 sacks so far this year. Taylor has had a lot of time to sit in the pocket and make the plays to the receivers unlike last year. The loss of Mann this past Saturday may have been a factor as well.

Our O-line is good. But I think USC's D-line was better and faster.

I don't think our oline is any better then it was in year 1 of callahan.

Yea, me neither :wacko:

The o-line is improved, as Taylor has typically had time to get the ball away, but it's not where we need it yet. 2 or 3 sacks on the year so far. Against USC, he typically had time but coverage must have been good or receivers weren't getting open in time.

 
It's much better than last year but still needs much improvement. Some one needs to step up and take old man Austin out of the equation.

He missed at least one important block against USC that I can remember .

 
The Center makes the calls. Our starter is out. It looked like Zack was trying to make the calls and couldn't get that done a few times with Byford. I'm not taking anything from Byford, but he doesn't have the experience. Taylor had to call a time out twice because of communication with the line. Hopefully this getts better, but it will take time for Byford. This line will get it done. Have Faith. GBR

 
We still have a ways to go, but our lineman are still young and wet behind the ears. Give them some time and they will start to show some progress.

 
:yeah Taylor had no time last year to throw and was running for his life!!!! He took some major shots last year too when I thought he wasn't going to get up. He has more time to throw this year and we will see the line get better and better as time goes on throughout the year!!!!
