I’m sure the hyper critical nature of this sport and fans have a detrimental impact on the players. Used to care more about this but with NIL I’ve kinda shifted in the territory that this is to be expected when said players are making 6-7 figures a year playing football at schoolFair point. I do think one can be a fan of a team that is striving for greatness without being hyper critical of every detail along the way. I personally believe that section of our fan base actually has a negative impact on the overall program. These coaches and players sign up for it but that doesn't mean it has no impact.
Here are some quotes. You guess the coach/coaches.
"My kids were watching the game and I heard I might be fired. I don't know if they were really upset about it, but they wanted to know if it was a fact. I'm sure it had an effect on them."
"Frankly, I took the phone off the hook at home for the weekend. The kids took some calls after the game and most of them were not supportive. I don't think the kids should have to hear some of the things that were said."
When asked if pressure from the fans and bad press ever caused _______ to consider resigning, _______ said: "Sure, I've thought about resigning. I've always weighed the pluses and minuses and sometimes it's a pretty thin line between the two."
I think a similar argument can be made that our attachment to history and having facilities on par with title teams creates a somewhat entitled and spoiled roster. I get pretty frustrated and annoyed with the constant PR puff pieces and red carpet treatment players get to enjoy but then same guys don’t show up on gameday. It’s like being a rich family and spoiling the hell out of the kids then we’re all puzzled why they grew up to entitled brats that don’t reach their potential. Not the best analogy I know lol, but lot of parallels
I’m not saying to strip back resources and facilities, it’s needed to succeed at the level we do. But hot damn, just for once I want a season where the product on the field matches what we put in
