Odds

Dr. Tom will evaluate. He will take imput. He will interview. He will not rush anything. He will hire the best coach for this program for the future. I gotta like the sound of that.

Good list though! There will prolly be others.

Until then, GO HUSKERS!!! BEAT TEXAS!!! HUSKER FAMILY - REGULATE!!!

Glancing at Paul Johnson's Wikipedia page . . . looks like he has a 99-35 career so far, with his only losing season his first year at Navy when they went 2-10, and a 62-8 record as the coach of Georgia Southern.

Impressive . . . wonder what he could do at a BCS school . . .

If the Huskers could land Paul Johnson, NU would have a major, major, major upgrade in coaching and would have a guy who would be among the tops in the game. He is an outstanding coach with a remarkable record. moreover, everything I have ever heard said about him is that he is a great man of integrity and character.

He would be a beyond awesome hire and is clearly, head and shoulders above the other listed options.

He would be the top choice (among these candidates) I am sure of almost any AD.

Lets hope it happens. I would expect a rapid turn around if we had Paul Johnson at the helm.

To say that bringing Navy around is a testament to his ability to motivate is a ridiculous statement. Those men will be Leaders in the greatest Armed Forces in the World. They learn a hell of a lot more motivation and dedication in that Academy than any coach could bring them. Just Saying.

Well, maybe...I was in the Marine Corps and a lot of academy guys wouldn't cross the street unless directly ordered by a superior officer.

I went to college in DC and had several friends at the Naval Academy at the same time, including my best friend from high school, so I was tailgating at most Navy home games for a couple years.

It really is a different atmosphere than any other college football venue. The entire brigade of midshipmen march from campus to the stadium (about 3-4 miles) before the game, and the team gets really jacked up to play in front of their classmates and fans, even back when they were struggling just to win a few games a year.

I say Glenn. Proven winner and doing well in Laramie. Beat Virginia and TCU. I doubt we could right now. He knows what it would take to win in Lincoln. Last time we had to turn things around we looked to Wyoming. I say lightning strikes twice.

I was listening to Cal-Oregon on the radio and at the half they interviewed the Cal punter. They said "You started your career at Wyoming, what happened to bring you here."

Punter: "I am from Southern California and went there with a high school teammate. It was ok at first then the wind and cold hit, I lasted three months and came back to California, went to a JC and took my chances."

That is the kind of environment Glenn is winning in. Lincoln would be easier for him. Plus this article left me all warm and fuzzy.

prior to johnson, the best the midshipmen had done previously was the george welsh period from '73 to '81.

after that, it was about a 30 years stretch of sub par football.

how about that?

and i'm not burning a flag in front of crippled war veterns at the VA, i'm pointing out that navy football teams collectively sucked since '81.

just looking at the numbers.

but if we're gonna talk about the greatest Armed Forces in the World, by that logic army should be monsters off the chain. that's where the airborne rangers, special forces and delta force guys come from, so these guys must *always* have winning teams, right?

My post said nothing of their ability to play football. Perhaps it was in a different thread (There are 1023947283242 of them about Coaches) but someone spoke of Johnson's ability to motivate and that it was reflected in the Navy squads record. I do think what he's done at Navy is a testament to his coaching ability and his knowledge about the game of football. I do not think its a reflection of his ability to Motivate and to instill a winning attitude in that team.
