Off-topic: What are your football resumes?

I think you took what I said out of context. Understandable.

"will take guys to fill out practice squads..."

Every football team does this... even the NFL.

"but not every guy that plays high school ball can "play" at the collegiate level"

I didn't say just vaguely collegiate level, I said in the NAIA. And I didn't say start, being on the roster and starting are two different things. I hope I cleared that up.

Played 2 years DE/OL at Logan Fontenelle Middle School. Then i started on the freshman squad DE at Bellevue East, moved to 2nd string MLB for my soph year, 1st string MLB for the JV team. Played the varsity team my senior year as the starter MLB/DE.

I didn't play collegiate ball, i chose to join the USAF instead.

Don't remember how many tackles i had, i know i had 6 sacks, 1 INT, 3 deflections, and 11 TFL throughout my career at Bellevue East.

I played college ball, won three Heismans, was in the NFL for 33 years, went to 22 pro bowls, and got the NFL's MVP 12 times.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's talk some football. :horns2

Thanks for responding I think.
If you ask a dumb question you will get dumb answers. You shouldn't be surprised.
Wondering what people's backgrounds are in football is dumb. Ok. Thanks for responding.
I think its a great question? I feel like alot of people on the board have no idea what they are talking about because they have no experience. Most of them are playing Madden football.

Also I have learned to never get into the intramural football, i mean division III football argument. I just end up offending someone.

come on big gun, tell us then

I played 5A football in Colorado, defensive back, I coached pee wee starting with 5-6 year old flag football until my son escaped my dictatorship after 11-12 year old tackle football. I have ran the downmarker for our local high school football team in Alabama for 6 seasons. I am trying to wrap up some schooling by next summer and if that does happen I may be looking at refereeing starting next fall for middle school, JV, and Varsity in Alabama.

I played at the NAIA level and it is completely arrogant to say that anyone that plays at the high school level can play at the NAIA level! The main reason I went the NAIA route was b/c of some mistakes I made in HS regarding grades and I did not want to go the JUCO route. I think it is fair to say that the NAIA is very similar to D-III, except you can receive a scholarship in the NAIA.

I am not sure which NAIA schools you are around but there is some good football out there. If you look at two weeks ago, my alma mater (an NAIA school) defeated North Dakota (D-IAA team).

Anyone can be on a roster no matter the level...you work hard enough you can make the roster.

You said

"I played at the NAIA level and it is completely arrogant to say that anyone that plays at the high school level can play at the NAIA level!"

"Anyone can be on a roster no matter the level...you work hard enough you can make the roster."

Then. Is it not completely arrogant to say that anyone who works hard enough can be on a roster on any level? haha

"I am not sure which NAIA schools you are around but there is some good football out there. If you look at two weeks ago, my alma mater (an NAIA school) defeated North Dakota (D-IAA team)."

I don't remember ever saying NAIA schools were not competitive.

"main reason I went the NAIA route was b/c of some mistakes I made in HS regarding grades and I did not want to go the JUCO route."

I earlier said--it really depends on what works best for you. I never said just because you played at an NAIA school you weren't good enough to play on a higher level.

I played DE at Minnesota. Was a 4-time All-American, Lombardi award winner, Heisman Winner. 3-time Big 10 Conference champion. 3-time National Champion.

Of course, that was on NCAA '08... :)

In reality, played 8-man football in Nebraska (class D-2). First team all-district o-line, 2nd team D-line my senior year. 2-year letter winner. And we won our district my sophomore, junior, and senior year.

Played flag football 3-6th grades, played 7-8th grade in middle school, freshman team, jv my soph year, varsity jr and senior years. 4A in the state of MO (2nd largest class, atleast when i was in school) I have coached everything from pop warner to flag football with 4th-6th graders. I called play-by-play and color for HS and D-2 football while in college and was offered a full time color position after graduation with a D-2 school. I was never a superior athelete, just a better, smarter player. Bad luck for me I really didnt hit my big growth period in HS. It hit when i was in college. I played strong side DE (like a monsterback/stand up over the TE) and TE/backup Tackle as a 6'3" 185 lbs 17 year-old senior. After my first year in college i was 6'3" 210. just 1 year too late

With that said, anyone who truely loves the game can learn about it. You may not fully understand because you never did it. You were never hit, tackled and blocked. but you can stilll be knowledgible about it. dont assume just because someone didnt play that they dont know, and dont assume just because they DID play that they do know. I know some real football stupid people who couldnt scheme their way out of paper bag and they played the game.

Fro talking about his Powder Puff days again... Played QB and LB in junior high, was QB/WR and LB Freshman year, then OL/DE Soph-SR year.I was a 185lb OL, go figure... <_< 2nd Team all district, honorable mention all state. Played in Iowa 2A and had to go ironman, not enough guys to fill a full team... <_<

Played AA High School Football in SC, varsity for 3 years. Athletic Trainer at Clemson for 5 seasons (where I learned most about football, just from listening to the coaches on a daily basis), now coaching little league.

I realize that... I'm just curious. A few of the posters on here have gotten into quite a bit of detail surounding defense, blocking schemes, etc. So I was just wondering.
Just because you didn't play college football doesn't mean you don't understand the game. The argument that you have to have played to be able to comment is a complete fallacy.

I never played women's college volleyball, but I've watched the Huskers for about 20 years, and I guarantee you I know enough to coach beginning volleyball to kids. I can diagram plays, defensive alignments, blocking responsibilities, serve receive and offensive transition. I can put together a lineup and make substitutions based on game situations. I can teach skills basics and I know a ton of tips/tricks about the game, and I know all of the rules. Never once played a match at the Coliseum, either.

I have never been impressed with a person who spouts off this childish "you never played" argument. It's weak.

Did you play for Sioux Falls? I played for Dana College :dumdum

I'm not even taking it as "whos word had more meaning" just by how much they have played, I personally just find it interesting listening to what everyone has done.
