I hate the comparison to how Milt and Young were doing it back in the day. That was 20-30 years ago. Football is a lot different than it was when Milt and Young were the o-line coaches. Back then, the o-line could dominate lesser opponents and only play about 1/2 to 3/4 of the game. Also, the linemen took 1-2 years in the weight room and get to the point where they could develop and be able to be backups for a year.
Well now, kids are coming to NU in better physical shape and they don't require a long time before they are physically ready to contribute. Yes, there are mental reps that are needed, but that can be done by rotating the linemen. NU has 17 scholarship linemen, and I am sure there are 2-3 walk-ons that can contribute. Starting in 2017, I don't see why Cav can't change things up and do some rotation of some sort. At least get swing tackles and guards, so that 7 guys are getting regular snaps. If he's not doing it, and just says "It's not the way I do things" it's a lazy approach.
